CHA meeting moved to the Family Resource Center

This month’s Church Hill Association meeting is set for Tuesday, February 16 at 7PM, and will be held at the Family Resource Center (2405 Jefferson Avenue). City Council 7th District representative Cynthia Newbille will give a presentation of her views and her vision for the 7th District, “and there will be undoubtedly be a spirited question and answer session afterwards”. Members and nonmembers are welcome to attend!

The February issue of the CHA’s Church Hill Newsletter (PDF) is available and seems to signal a fresh approach within the venerable organization. Karen Chase will be the new editor of the newsletter, and apparently will be helping revamp the Church Hill Association’s website. The CHA is considering going to a digital-only distribution of the newsletter.

Minutes from the last Board Meeting state that CHA President John Whitworth discussed CHA goals for 2010, including, in no particular order: “block parties to encourage neighborhood cohesiveness; becoming more inclusive (diversity of age, race, geography, etc.); forging partnerships with neighborhood organizations (such as the Family Resource Center, Tricycle Gardens); considering hosting Vespers at other churches; making meetings more interesting and relevant; focusing on addressing policies important to residents; and, finally, addressing the question of what the borders, if any, of the CHA may be.” The minutes also state that “CHA should endeavor to better understand its relationship to emerging and established civic associations in the East End (a neighborhood forum at Richmond Hill would assist in this process);”

In another very positive move, at the January 2010 General Membership meeting Whitworth asked for Church Hill Association board members or general members to volunteer to serve as a liaison to the other area civic associations, including Union Hill, Church Hill North, Church Hill Central and Oakwood-Chimborazo. These volunteers would be expected to attend the organization’s meetings and help co-ordinate activities.
