Rally in support of Richmond’s public housing communities set for Tuesday
Stand in Support of Richmond’s Public Housing Communities has been announced for the April 20th RRHA Board of Commissioners Meeting:
Please come out to stand in solidarity with Richmond’s public housing residents as they take advantage of the public comment portion of this meeting and ask the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority to commit to addressing the real concerns of their communities.
We will rally outside to show that the greater community of Richmond cares about the long-term availability of quality low-income housing while residents present their calls for:
- Full-implementation of Section 3, using federal Housing and Urban Development funds to create jobs and work towards economic justice for residents.
- The ability to pay rent in their own city. Many Richmond public housing residents were charged an unfair $5 late fee on recent rent statements. During the heavy snow this winter the Postal Service was unable to deliver residents’ rent on time to the Baltimore, MD bank that manages the account due to the poor road conditions. Residents report that their money orders and checks were dated up to five days BEFORE rent was due.Why should residents be charged fees for something they can’t control, like road conditions? Furthermore, in a city like Richmond where Section 3 jobs for public housing residents are scare to non-existent, why can’t they pay rent in their own city with other residents employed processing the payments?
- Real progress towards adopting the Residents Bill of Rights for Redevelopment (1-for-1 unit replacement, no additional re-screening processes, and the right to return)… no more stalling tactics while the future of residents homes is in danger.
- Increased resident representation on the RRHA Board of Commissioners. Currently only 1 in 7 of the commissioners resides in assisted housing.
This event is going to be really important and will help determine the next step the public housing community takes toward direct action. It’s important that residents participate, but its equally important that there is a greater Richmond presence as well. One City, One Community!

Is this a joke? Really? “Economic Justice”? A 5$ late fee?? Really? Holy crap people…get real. Pull yourselves OUT of public housing! Don’t sit and whine about your “economic justice”. What the heck does that even mean anyway…make everything fair? Life ain’t fair. We all have the same opportunities, it’s the choices you make in life that provides your destiny. Grow up and stop bitchin!
“We all have the same opportunities…” What world do you live in?
I grew up poor. My parents were teenagers, and my dad was a drug addict. I’m now 27 and own 2 houses and have a 6-figure net worth. Why? Cuz welfare sucked! I live in the world where anyone can be anything they want to if they get off their lazy asses! jesus people, i’ve been there. Put your white guilt away and think for yourself.
How about a rally in support of personal responsibility?
Why would I celebrate these vile eyesores that put a huge black eye on this city? (And yes, I am extremely familiar with Richmond’s public housing and their inhabitants).
If you don’t like the housing the taxpayers provide, then move. The elderly, disabled and those needing temporary assistance (ie perhaps no more than one year unless seeking a degree at a higher institute of learning)are excused.
What do we as taxpayers receive in return for housing and feeding those who are not trying? Indeed, their very lives depend on the government, or so we have been told and the takers believe.
I will gladly (and do) support those who give back society. I have no sympathy for the able bodied takers.
Reading this post advertising a nonsensical rally made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.
WhoDat needs to buy Christo, Sean and Klco03 a beer!
TANSTAAFL
#6- I second that, ditto, and Amen.
@5 WhoDat…I’m sure there’s something you feel we just don’t understand. Good Lord…when will the excuse making stop?
TANSTAAFL? Right! Go tell that to baby momma!
It’s a core decision. RRHA is a 4(6 million a year bnusiness; should it be run ike a business, or like a social program. The RRHA master plan, passed five years ago, calls for a limited number of “project” units, for the aged and disabled, then mixed use, mixed incomes units and vouchers to deconcentrate poverty. The greatest inpact on economic mobility is the income of the neighborhood where you live., If you live in an area with a high concentration of poverty, then you are likely to stay poor, or get poorer. If you live in a mixed income neighborhood, with a low density of poverty, you have a chance top break the cycle. But elected officials whose careers depend on concentrations of low income voters create an almost impossible impediment to deconcentration.
My typing sucks. It should read “RRHA is a $96 million…”
Bad things happen to good people. I’m sure there are those laid low by a bout of misfortune who are doing everything they can to return to their former success.
However, there are also those who abuse the system … either they do so unwittingly, perhaps due to a lack of self confidence or a no belief in their own self worth ; or they do so deliberately, because it allows them to be lazy. Why work hard when the government will babysit you?
#1 – You said it all! I couldn’t agree more. My mortgage payment goes out of state, and yet somehow I was able to get it there on time despite the snow. It’s all about excuses. Why would I (or anyone else) want to go to a rally in favor of public housing?!
5 dollars?! Outrageous.
You’re kidding me right? This isn’t April Fools again is it?!?!?! A rally in FAVOR of public housing?!?!?!
I’m still trying to figure out why someone is complaining about a $5 late fee! My late fee is 10% of my rent! Not to mention the fact that I drive my rent payment to the landlord given the shitty USPS service we have in Church Hill. I’m surprised anyone’s rent or mortgage payment reaches their destinations.
What’s next, are they going to bitch about not being able to get cigarettes or hit the ABC store with their food stamps card?
Is it Monday or Tuesday? Headline says Monday but facebook page says the 20th which is Tuesday.
When I read “$5 late fee”, I got a little outraged. My late fee is way higher than that and I live one paycheck to another. If the rent wasn’t late, then dispute it – I am sure there is a process for it – but a mere $5 late fee is a great deal to what everyone else has to pay.
@Kerri – Tuesday. Thanks for catching that.
BTW, RRHA is NOT meeting today (Monday).
jesus, what a hateful bunch of schmucks. by the way youre outrage would be a little more meaningful if you gutless turds would sign your real names. oh and sean congratulations on your success. too bad you didnt learn a thing from your parents mistakes.you sound like a fountain of anonymous bullshit. heres hoping your hubris kicks you right in your tiny little balls.buddycorbett
Oh, believe me, i’m down to help my fellow man. I do plenty. The fact that there is a RALLY to cry over a $5 late fee is insane to me. The reality is the system in place to “help” the underemployed is designed to keep them exactly where they are. And no i’m not a republican or tea party or any other bigot, i just use common sense. Full name included to please the internet gods.
Wanting someone to succeed in life is not hate. Wanting people to take responsibility is not hate. Wanting people to get off the federal dole is not hate. Know what hate is? It’s posts like buddy’s. Can’t you feel the hate dripping off his post?
It’s my understanding that the demonstration is driven by the Legal AId Society, unhappy that they did not get to name the tenant representative to RRHA. They are driving a movement to demand that the projects be replaced with new projects on a one to one basis, and they adamantly oppose deconcentration of poverty.
re: post 19. it always amuses me that buddy brags so hard about how cool it is that he uses his real name in his posts.
that’s because buddy doesn’t concern himself with the realities of the internet and cyber law.
SLAP lawsuits, and cyber warfare waged against individuals who’s opinions might differ is too much of a risk for many folks to take. if you use your real name, you’re opening yourself to attack on a MUCH worse scale that bully-buddy’s playground potty mouth.
if you’re a private citizen, why take the risk that someone who disagrees with you might take a notion to attack you online and destroy your reputation and possibly your ability to earn a living?
the bottom line: those of us with jobs, reputations we care about, promising careers, homes, businesses and other assets, risk losing a chunk of that if we leave ourselves exposed to internet attack by using our real names.
I would support having a tenant representative on the RRHA board. But, while I do not believe we should do away with all public housing, I would not support 1 to 1 replacment.
it always amuses me that the anonymous haters are always the ones that talk about what “good’people they are as opposed to the peoplethey denigrate daily on this blog. a bully? maybe in the safe little world that you sally forth from to post your little diatribes. your insults mean nothing because at the end of the day your anonymous posts just show you lack the courage of your convictions. how do you bully folks so cowardly that they can only post from the comfortable cover of their own prejudices?if you want to post…do so. dont say outrageously racist comments if yiu dont have the cyber cojones to own your hate. all bad things spring from folks too afraid to say the things they hold in their scummy little hearts. call me a bully? an easy comment to make when you cant stand to see your nasty little face reflected in the mirror of your own impotent rage.yeah, my name is buddy corbett and if you dont like what i write feel free to take it up in a more personal manner. good luck with that . all this aside are you in favor of concentated poverty e.g. mosby, gilpin etc.or spreading low income housing throughout adjacent neighborhoods to provide good citizen modeling for at risk youth? just a thought to distract the mystery millionaires so worried about their high places in the community.oh and boohoo you gutless…. oh you get it.
buddy, e-thuggin is not really the mature way to handle this. Sharing personal information, even your name, on the internet is ignorant. I am glad you have no issue sharing your name. I hope it doesn’t come back to bite you in the rear some day. Telling people to “take it up in a more personal manner” really shows your lack of intelligence. If you don’t like someone’s opinion, violence is not the civilized way to convey your personal agenda. With this mindset, you are placing yourself with the group of people we don’t need in Church Hill. We have enough people expressing themselves with physical aggression. That is what keeps our crime rate so high in this city.
My suggestion: Relax, take a chill pill, and think about how you can convey your opinion in a civilized manner. Use your words. If you feel the people posting here are wrong, tell them factual information to represent your side. Stop trying to get personal and pressuring people into releasing their names. This is a public forum and not town hall meeting.
Buddy, can you please tell me which of the above comments you consider “racist”.
I am having a hard time figuring out what buddy’s views on the issues are. All I really know from his posts is that he hates some of the comments and apparently the commenters on this site.
Lets remember that this site has always been represented by KKK and white supremicy comments. I agree with Buddy.
tiny, buddy has made multiple posts on this site trying to get people to post under their real names. He also likes to claim people are racist (but he is actually a white person). Opinions are all fine, no matter what your stance. However, trying to pressure people into posting their real names is just plain wrong. In fact, since I know buddy’s name and general location, a quick 5 minute search gave me his age, address, phone number, employment info, and even a few pictures. Be careful on the internet. I know someone that had their identity stolen because they were egging the wrong people on and released their name/location.
maybe if buddy is so sure of himself, he’ll go ahead and post his address, age, phone number and place of employment. Heck, why not go ahead and post your social and your visa card number while you’re at it. That would truly make him a real man! Come on buddy….do it!
my name is butty assbutt. that’s my real name. i’m using it…blah, blah, blah. your shtick is getting old…
So free housing is a human right? Inalienable or constitutional?
gimme my free stuff
This is what you get when people grow up with the entitlement mentality.

again call me what u will but i stand by the assertion that anonymous hate blogging is having it all your way. u get to talk mad shit but u dont have to take credit for it. i know its a guilty pleasure but please dont transfer all your self loathing on me. hey james, wow, you have looked me up and have got the 411 on me.whats your point. i wouldnt say anything in person i wouldnt say to your face.can you say the same.? i dont respect anonymous haters no m,atter their own self deluding behavior.that said look me up.i am always ready to listen to a well reasoned argument. i just dont like people who say nasty things but wont own up to them. buddycorbett
Yes, I can say the same. I am quite well mannered on this site, and I am the same in person. If you don’t like what I write, don’t read it. I also don’t carry a threatening tone to my neighbors. If you have a problem with the people on here, express your side of the argument. Stop telling people to come take it up with you personally. Some of us have matured enough to know that violence is not the way to solve differences. You are an adult old enough to be my father, so you should really start acting like it.
I should not that most of the “haters” are just normal hard working people that are pissed off about certain aspects of this community. They have a right to voice their opinions, just like you do. You don’t have to like what they say, but you do have to respect their right to anonymity.
james ,i dont have to respect anybody too scared to own what they say. did i threaten you or are you just the sensitive type?if u feel threatened by my ancient self then i suppose you need to make a ridiculous pseudonym up for yourself and take another wack at me . until then show the courage of your convictions . i am old but i have at least learned that nobody respects mean spirited ANONYMOUS trash talking. sorry honey just not impresse dont make me sick the aarp on you!its me its meits buddycorbett
