Have you seen Moscow?
05/10/2010 6:51 AM by John M
Craigslist has word on a missing cat:
Moscow is a buff colored, neutered male cat. He was last seen on May 6th without his collar. He was favoring his front left paw a little bit, but it may be healed by now. He is the sweetest cat in the world and will come to anyone, but his family is very lonely without him 🙁 He will also answer to Moscowsita, or just Sita. Please call us any time of day if you have seen him! Byron and Kalita 804-972-0126 or 540-336-4434 or penningtonmb@vcu.edu
Handsome cat – I’m sorry to hear it… Where was he last seen? Will keep an eye out for Moscowsita.
He lives near 36th & Broad, thanks for looking.
Last time we saw him was near home on the 3600 block of Broad. He is a very adventuresome cat though and would go on really long walks with us through the neighborhood.
Quite the handsome little fellow…I hope he comes home soon!
He’s pretty cute…if I see him I just might keep him for myself 🙂
Just kidding! If I see him at 32nd and Broad I will certainly feed him and let you know.
If you’ve seen him in the area, you could try putting out a trap for him. There are cage type traps that won’t hurt him – you just have to be sure to check it a couple of times a day.
We had a sick cat get out and run off a year or so ago. He was out for a week or more – similar to your situation, we would see him out but could not retrieve him.
Put the trap out one night and we caught him within a few hours – got him back on his meds, etc..
Thanks for the advise. Our guess is that either someone has him and won’t let him out or another animal got him. Otherwise he would definitely come home. There are a couple of people that drive in regularly to feed the feral cats that hang out in the old trailer park lot off of Government. It is right down the hill from our house (about 100 yards). Unfortunately our cats can’t resist the free wet food and often go down there as well. My concern is that they may have been able to catch Moscow because of his hurt paw, and could have thought he was another one of the strays that hangs out there since he didn’t have a collar on. We put a sign down there, so we have our fingers crossed that they will see it and call! For that matter, we just wish anyone would call… Please come home Moscow 🙁
I would try going to the pound and looking as well. I went daily looking for my cat Britney and they were always so helpful and would let me go in all of the rooms and look. Unfortunately I was never able to find her but I’m convinced someone took her because she was so sweet and friendly. I hope Moscow is home safe soon!
I am pretty sure I saw this cat yesterday in the alley between 27th/28th behind Broad. If it was Moscow, he was fending off a bigger black cat after a standoff. I just figured they were street cats until seeing this today. Maybe you could look around that area?
It’s hard to say but I did want to add I fed a feral orange kitty in that alley for almost 3 years. I would think it’s the one I know…I do hope it’s yours but I wouldn’t want you to hold false hope. Just know there’s another orange boy in that area. Very docile and non-aggressive as noted by Michael. Anyone who sees him, please be kind!
This may be the cat i have seen on Clay between 28 and 29. He is new to the block. There are a few “regulars” around and they are all being cared for, and spayed/neutered if homeless, by Dr Nan Jack.
Oh! I think I saw this cat on the corner of Marshall and 30th. He was meowing and I thought he was just waiting for his “people” to come home. He was very friendly. I will leave a bowl of food and see if it entices him.
So was this your pet outdoor cat? I didn’t think it was legal to have a free roaming pet in the city limits. I know there are a couple pet outdoor cats near me that kill birds in our garden and defecate all over. I have thought about calling animal control on them, but would rather just force the owner to properly care for them (inside the owners house). Don’t worry, none of the cats I am talking about look like Moscow.
What’s the ordinance that states that having an outdoor cat is illegal? Some neighborhoods are suitable and some are not. All cats don’t need to be inside.
Oh, and don’t birds defecate all over, too?
Cat poo is actually harmful for humans. They carry parasites and other bacteria. The fact that my garden is a food garden means that this is a risk to my health. I mean, I don’t expect people without a patio or garden to understand. Why should I have to clean up after other people’s animals? We live in the city, where row houses are right next to eachother. That means your outdoor cat is really an inconvenience to all your neighbors unless he stays in your small property (which they don’t). If the cat here was an indoor cat, it would only be missing if it got out by accident.
BTW, if you think it is legal to have a free roaming pet cat, you should read Richmond City Law Section 10-173…
(a) No owner shall fail to exercise proper care and control of a dog or cat to prevent it from becoming a public nuisance.
Sorry, a free roaming cat that kills birds and leaves them on my property, while also tearing up my garden and crapping all over the place, is considered a public nuisance.
James,
Sounds like you need to find a condo.
There are dusins and dusins of stray cats and other lost souls all around Church Hill. Always have been. And we take care of the living up here, spay and neuter those in need. Always will.
Church Hill is a community for all of us.
Yes there are stray cats everywhere. Even more reason for people to stop having outdoor cats as pets. That just adds to the problem. And there are no stray cats on my block. Every cat I see has a collar, so the are registered and belong to someone. If I had a stray hanging out around my place, I would take it to the Richmond ASPCA, so they could give it the medical care it needs and have someone adopt it. Church Hill is a community for all of us… that means people need to start considering their neighbors before having a free roaming pet.
#16 Most condos don’t allow free roaming cats.
As crazed as James seems, he does have a point. Free roaming cats can be a nuisane at times. I have one that comes into my yard and upsets my dogs at all hours. I suspect that if my dogs went into a cat owners yard they would not appreicate it.
The Richmond SPCA won’t take stray cats. The only accept pets turned in by their owners, by appointment, and at their discretion based on breed, age, temperment, adoptability, etc. They used to be a “humane” society, but the organization reinvented itself as a premier adoption agency and recipient of charitable contributions from Richmond’s elite.
