Census worker robbed in Fairfield Court
05/12/2010 4:50 PM by John M
The RTD is reporting on the robbery of a census worker in Fairfield Court on Saturday:
Police arrested Demone L. Bankston, 27, of the 2300 block of Bethel Street, soon after Saturday’s robbery in the 2500 block of Fairfield Avenue, said police spokesman James Mercante. […] The census taker, police said, was robbed of undisclosed “personal belongings” about 5 p.m., while he was visiting households that either did not receive a 2010 Census form or did not mail one in.
this is one of those things that just makes you feel sick. what a shame!
I thought I’d like to get a part time job and help out with the census. Then I learned the only participation required in our area was canvassing, door to door (I declined).
Pardon my cynicism but what
did he THINK was going to happen, knocking uninvited on people’s doors in Fairfield Court…? Also lets note, maybe some of those people didn’t answer the census because they don’t want to be found. Might be best to leave that alone, ya think?
Meals on Wheels sends people in pairs. For anyone to go alone was foolish, and he’s lucky all he got was robbed.
The guy wasn’t even from Fairfield!
Rabbit,
It seems like you’re saying the census worker got what he deserved…he was just doing his job. Now, his supervisor (or whatever they are called) should have known more about the area, the possibility of trouble and sent workers in teams.
The census worker in question was paired up with a partner.
We dont cotton to Revenuers, Census Takers, and Bill Collectors.
“We dont cotton to Revenuers, Census Takers, and Bill Collectors”
What the hell does that mean?
…as in “put cotton to” , or don’t require to wear under pants…
Why just they (Revenuers, Census Takers, and Bill Collectors) need to be brief-less, I don’t know? It just the way Church Hill rolls.
hummm…odd saying but now I know!
Thanks WhoDat!
Personally, I think briefless is rather comfortable! LOL
I am now going to use that phrase when I talk to my friends.
I always wondered how working for the Census works. Is it random?; do they send suburban-raised college kids into the projects, or do you work within your own neighborhood?
I saw census workers gathered in a group of 15 or 20 this afternoon to work Mosby. Sonuds like they do not want that happening again.
SEW: I’m assuming you’re a Yankee, and you’re chain has just been yanked. Cotton is a Southern term for “like,” so, in this context (notice the accent put in the quote), “we don’t like revenuers…”
anonymous, actually, I was born and raised in Richmond so a yankee I am not. I had just not heard the term cotten used in that context before. Thanks for the info.
responce to the census is required by law!! hello?..for like 200 years now. who cares if you dont like it, its a part of being an american citizen.
