Who can rebuild a porch?
06/08/2010 8:54 PM by John M
A reader writes in looking for suggestions on a contractor to rebuild a porch:
I need names of reliable and friendly contractors who can rebuild my front porch with gingerbread trim, columns and spindle rails. I might not be using the technical terms. My current porch is horrid and was built hastily and it needs to go; it’s splintered and dangerous.
TAGGED: question
Savoy Properties did excellent work on ours, replacing some rotten wood, flashing and tin, as well as recoating the roof. Give Bill Pangburn a call at 804-241-1955.
I have also seen Restoration Builders of Virginia doing porch repairs around the neighborhood. Worth giving them a call too. 804-649-2162.
Rob Pate does excellent work up here and also lives up here. I know several people he’s done porch work for, and am sure he can give good references, too. His business is Fair & Square, and his business card shows two phone numbers – 344-0008 and 350-0969 (I think one is cell number, other is office number). I would most definitely give him a call. I’ve seen porches he’s restored in the historic district, and done an excellent job on them.
The other contractor who is recommended up here is David Cooley, he owns Restoration Builders of Va. Inc. (RBVa), office phone is 649-2162. He also lives here, as well as having an office here. But he may have other bigger jobs at the moment, as he tends to do whole house renovations; you might call him anyway to see if a crew member or two wants to moonlight doing a porch.
And your technical terminolgy sounds fine to me! You’ll most likely learn even more during the porch renovation – please post here when it’s done!
Savoy did some work on my house a few years back and did a lovely job. RVBA also does excellent work. Both are reliable and very friendly. You can go wrong with either of them.
Savoy and RBVa are both great. Add to the list Jon Lillyman, who rebuilt my back porch, and re-used most of the original materials. He’s a true craftsman. Matt Elmes does great work also, and he lives in the neighborhood.
Rob Pate or RBVA are both excellent choices.
Gable Painter. Gable Painter. Gable Painter.
Tom Haines also lives in the neighborhood and also does excellent work–
can highly recommend him
I second Rob Pate. He rehabbed my front porch and popped out my back deck.
Good work.
I’ll second or third whichever it is for RBVA they do nice work
Go with Pate. I’ve known him for 30 years. He’s a stand-up guy.
Thanks, everyone! I’ll call all these guys and see who can do what.
Also, I will post before and after pics! Yay!
#12 Thanks Carolyn “CJ”! Looking forward to those pictures!
