Alamo BBQ in good company
San Francisco food blogger Urban Stomach recently passed through Richmond and stopped at Buz N Ned’s, The Dairy Bar, Sally Bell’s Kitchen, and Alamo BBQ:
At one year old, Alamo BBQ was the newest restaurant that I tried in Richmond and came highly recommended by the manager at Sally Bell’s […]. I opted for the Texas brisket sandwich with a side of jalapeno mac and cheese and both were winners. I had to clear off most of the onions and jalapenos in order to truly enjoy the expertly smoked meat in the sandwich but it was well worth the effort. Why ruin beautiful meat with ballpark jalapenos and raw onions? The jalapenos were much better suited for the creamy mac and cheese, where they added a nice zing without taking away from the cheesiness that we all love. Alamo has a charming junk pile in the back (see above picture), a working smoker on the side, and just 7-8 tables on an outdoor patio in front. The fact that it sits in a residential neighborhood adds to its Southern charm.
TAGGED: Alamo BBQ
I love Alamo BBQ. I always go for the pulled pork.
I ate Alamo last night, Texas Brisket and Jalapeno Mac ‘n Cheese. They were kinda robbed last night about 8:15pm. 2 guys grabbed cash from the tip jar and ran. No one hurt, as far as I know. Police arrived quickly and got a K-9 unit on it. I don’t know how it ended, I went home to eat the outstanding food.
What a wonderful and well deserved review!
Bill, that is pretty effed up. I can’t see how anyone could rob from the tips. Stealing from the staff is the lowest of low.
I couldn’t live a block from a better place. I <3 Alamo.
I love Alamo too!
What ass holes to steal tips from the tip jar? How shitty!
A police car raced by me last night when I was on the way home and stopped in front of Alamo…I wondered what had happened.
Hopefully the police got the thieving little turds!
Alamo is awesome. Always fresh. Always delicious. Very reasonably priced. My favorite place in Richmond.
I guess the string attached to the tip jar doesn’t work. Maybe if they had a 12-guage on the other end of the string. Pretty messed up though to steal from the neighborhood like that.
Personlly, I LOVE ABBQ. I don’t need a review to tell me it’s a great place. Please don’t ever move, you’re only a block away.
All you need to do is drive past and you know how great it is. Smelling that BBQ makes me ravenous.
Alamo is one of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat and it certainly helps that it is so close to home!
I Love ABBQ!! So yummy! The pulled chicken sandwich is amazing and the ribs are awesome! Sorry you had someone steal from you! Hope the cops caught them!
Alamo is exactly the type of place we need more of in Church Hill. Two new store fronts are coming on line – the corner of 27th and Marshall and 39th and Broad (the small cafe next to it is also available). Lets hope we get some new, cool shops – like a deli or bakery, for example!
Get the Beef Brisket Cuban style the only way to go!!!!!!!! Great job Chris and Paul!!
Crazy crap like that is why I’ve pushed for formation of the Union Hill militia for so many years.
Think of it: we could drill in Jefferson Park and maybe even get cool uniforms. Who’s in?
“Union Hill militia” you say? Though we’ve lost some key members due to “Suburban Attrition” I can tell you, in good faith Sir, The White Horse Brigade, Union Hill Unit, “First to Fight, Morn’ Till Night!” stands ready to meet ANY threat to our rights to a FREE and PEACEFUL neighborhood.
Sleep soundly my fellow citizens of our strong and growing enclave-as George Orwell once wrote: “Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf”. And lastly, in the great words of a more modern man, Joe Strummer: “Know Your Rights !”
White Horse for President of Union Hill!
Must be a Clash – There’s no alternative!
I’m on my way to Alamo now for take-out.
