Hot and hottest

There seem to be separate weather stations for Church Hill and North Church Hill, showing a few degrees difference between the two. North Church Hill shows the hottest temp in the metro area.
Does anyone know where these stations are located or more about them?
yup. that’s my neighborhood. it was pretty awful today.
It’s clear to me that the reason why that part of Church Hill is so ridiculously hot is the lack of mature tree canopy that can be found in other parts of the City. Call your city Councilperson and demand that the City’s recently increased tree planting budget be used to make up for the years of neglect on this side of town.
Check out Google Earth and you can see the lack of foliage here versus west of 195. This topic should be a separate post.
Actually the Bellevue station was reading 107!
The North Church Hill Wx Station is at my house. It’s located in my rear yard (see photo here: http://www.612.richmondcitywatch.com/modules/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=1145).
That’s cool, how’d you end up with a weather station out back?
I am also wondering how Ryan Ramsey got a weather station!
Also, John, what’s the source of the map of all the different weather stations and temps?
Ryan, your url gave me this:
Reported Attack Page!
This web page at http://www.612.richmondcitywatch.com has been reported as an attack page and has been blocked based on your security preferences.
Fyi.
The maps are from Weather Underground and are links back to their source pages.
John, thanks for the link – I think those maps are great! Still waiting to hear from Ryan how he got a weather station in his yard.
Sorry to everyone for the problems with my web link above. I’ll be looking to correct that issue tonight.
I bought the weather station in March of 2009 from Davis Instruments (http://www.davisnet.com/index.asp). It’s the Vantage Pro 2 model. They have a great line of weather instruments that are perfect for your home or garden. I bought the Weather Link adaptor that allows me to upload my data to the Internet. I love having the ability to see my weather data live from any computer while also being able to archive my weather data. Had I not become an urban planner, I would have definitely become a meteorologist!
You can also view current conditions from my weather station here (this is a link from Davis’ web site): http://www.weatherlink.com/user/naytoryan/
Ryan, all those other weather stations on the weather underground map that John linked to – are they also using similar equipment, and volunteering to send their data to weather underground? I’m curious, thanks!
Oh, and I did not have any problems accessing your 612 link, but I did so at work from high speed internet quite awhile after Bill #7 posted his comment.
Damn Ryan, that is cool stuff. I like having a link to a local weather station. Holy crap, it says 105F right now. Feels like 115F. Ouch!
Because of the recent spike in temperatures on the East Coast, the local news recently had a segment of Urban Heat Island (UHI). Metropolitan areas normally have higher temperatures than their surrounding areas, even within a couple hundred feet. All the development, (buildings, monuments, asphalt, etc.) absorbs the heat and usually makes the night worst than the day. Here is the wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_heat_island.
