Street closed when repair crew hits gas line
07/22/2010 9:41 AM by John M
The 400 block of 32nd Street is blocked off and houses are being evacuated after a utility crew repairing a sidewalk hit a gas line.
TAGGED: 32nd Street
This happened about two months ago on the 500 block of 32nd also. Careless digging or bad marking? Maybe the city will investigate once there is an explosion.
I live on this street and didn’t know anything about it. I was at work. It’s also frustrating that they had signs up for repairs for over two weeks before starting. Anyone know when they’re going to finish the job?
#1 j, it’s also possible that the maps they are working with are not correct. I’m not by any means taking up for the city, please know that, but a few years ago they dug up East Grace Street, a project that was supposed to take a week or so to work on water pipes. I lived nearby, and had to put up with my water being cut off periodically for almost a month instead of a week. When I asked what was going on, and actually spoke to a supervisor, it turned out the maps had been drawn years ago, and were so wrong that the location of the water pipes they were trying to access were six feet away from where the map said they were. Just a possibility.
