East End Transformation Charrette follow-up meeting set for Saturday
Councilwoman Newbille will hold a meeting in Richmond’s East End 7th District to discuss and review the preliminary draft report that was written to encompass the results of the seven-day Richmond Nine Mile Road/25th Street Corridor Revitalization Plan – Community Planning “Charrette” held in June. The meeting will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2010, from 10:30AM- noon at the East District Initiative Building (701 N. 25th Street).
From the press release:
The Richmond Nine Mile Road/25th Street Corridor Revitalization Plan – Community Planning “Charrette” was held in the East End 7th District during a seven day period from June 1-7, 2010. This series of community meetings involved nearly 2,000 residents and stakeholders and included Councilwoman Newbille, Mayor Dwight Jones, Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA), and Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital. The goal of these meetings is to create a vision and plan for the revitalization of the Nine Mile Road/25th Street Corridor in Richmond’s Historic East End.
In preparing this plan, the consultant company DPZ was hired to assist with facilitating the Charrette and preparing reports to aid in producing a Richmond Nine Mile Road/25th Street Corridor Revitalization Plan.
HA! So when will the East End be transformed into the West End?…..Never. Its 40 oz and lottery tickets. Embrace it. Love it. Join it. The first 40oz is on me. Peace, love and corn chips.
As much as it saddens me to agree with 40oz. and lottery tickets…this whole Transformation Charrette is a political move to keep us taxpayers some what unbalanced and leave intact the block of non-taxpaying vote to keep the powers that be in power. When they started addressing the real problems the human issues – poor education, drop out rate, poor living conditions, non-skilled workforce and mental illness we will never improve the 7th district.
Love the photo-voltaics and the green roof in the rendering. Talk about a mile high overview. Add a few wind turbines and we got it going on.

Well said! I’m particularly amused by the fact that they had a children’s charrette session. If that isn’t political pandering, I don’t know what is!
Reminds me of this classic Monty Python clip:
