An update on Bebe the cat

An update on Bebe the cat from Melanie West:
As some of you may remember, about 2 months ago, Bebe escaped from his carrier when my sister stopped here in Richmond on her way from NYC to Florida. Bebe has been an outdoor cat for most of his life and has, thus far, resisted all attempts to catch him. I’ve been monitoring Bebe’s whereabouts through the neighbors (most sightings have been around the 2500 – 2800 blocks of Grace and E. Franklin Streets), however, there have been no reported sightings of Bebe in the last week. If you have seen, fed, pet or in any way cared for Bebe, please let me or my sister know. My email is melkielb@yahoo.com and my sister’s email is meshellemail@yahoo.com. I can also be reached at 402-8093.
I haven’t seen the little guy since the weather starting really warming up. He was usually out in the mornings on Franklin between 25th and 26th.
I’m so sorry, I thought you had captured him. He spent at least a week in a back yard on Libby Terrace, I think – but he has not been there in awhile, probably at least a month. If I see him, I will be sure to try to at least pet him if not capture him and let you ladies know where I saw him. I’m still driving around with a pillow case in my car to use as a cat carrier if I find him and can convince him to let me catch him. Now I will also add some cat treats to the car package so I have something to entice him with. Let’s hope we can catch him soon.
I’ve seen a black cat sauntering up and down the block on the first block of 29th St. It seemed well fed so I assumed it was a neighbor’s cat.
Thats most defintely Bebe…he has quite a strut. We are trying to locate who might be feeding and caring for him. If you hear of anyone please let me or my sister Melanie know. My email is listed on this reponse. Thanks so much!

Over the weekend I saw a black cat sleeping on the brick wall around the corner of 26th and Franklin.
A pillowcase? Please don’t put that poor cat in pillowcase!
Bebe for CH mascot??
There is an entire family of unneutered (I assume) sauntering black cats that live down by Sugar Bottom (29th & Franklin), and at least one of them makes it up the hill to the park area (we chat on occasion). Does Bebe have any other identifying marks? Is he chipped? Is he fixed? Churchill Animal Hospital can work with you to humanely trap Bebe, if his whereabouts can be made certain. I’ll keep my eyes peeled.
My bad, I just read the old post and saw that Bebe has a clipped ear and has been fixed. That will definitely narrow it down. Let’s find him before the weather gets cold…Have you tried putting up ‘Lost Cat with Clipped Ear’ signs around that area? Not everybody reads CHPN.
#10, good point but Melanie did put up signs when he originally escaped. Maybe there need to be new signs. I was just thinking the same thing, that not everybody reads chpn (they should, but they don’t! LOL)
Melanie- how about a new set of signs, particularly around the area(s) where he seems to be hanging out? I actually still know a fair amount of people on 28th and 29th, and I think most of them do not read chpn. Let me know if I can help, thanks.
a black cat ran out from underneath our parked car the other night on the corner of 27th and E. Clay when we went to get in. I had never seen that cat before so I’m not sure if he’s the one you are looking for or not.
I agree with #9- have you tried trapping him before? We had some luck trapping strays before.
Good luck and I hope you find him!
I have a male neutured black cat, too, that lives on 29th and Marshall. I hope he has not been mistaken for Bebe. I have tried to keep collars on him, but he gets out of them everytime. My cat is also very friendly, but he can be identified by a white patch on his throat.
Hello,
We have been feeding a very friendly black cat with a clipped ear for the past few weeks on the 400 block of N. 26th St. Our cats are out doors and he just started showing up at feeding time. He was so nice, we didn’t have the heart to shoo him away. Can’t tell from the photo if it’s him or not. Give me a call after 5 and you can come by and take a look. He always stops by for supper.

I will call you shortly, Tom. thanks. I also plan to put up more posters in the hood tomorrow. Thanks for all your help thus far. Again, he is black, does have a clipped ear, and, if he were human, would probably be a male model — he has quite the strut!
So, what’s the verdict? Is Bebe back from walkabout? I hope it’s come to a positive conclusion. Don’t leave us hanging…;)
I apologize for not checking back sooner. I went by Tom and Gretchen’s house last night around 6:15 and there were two sweet black cats on the front porch, however, neither of them were Bebe. Bebe has been seen though. Yesterday, Larry Masters who recently purchased/moved into 2714 E. Franklin St. (where we lived until 2 months ago) told me that he sees Bebe daily. Bebe seems to be getting fed by someone and appears to be in good health. He plays with Blue, Lu’s cat next door. Bebe, of course, will not let Larry get any closer than a few yards from him before Bebe runs away. This is the challenge. We will continue to monitor the situation with the hope that (1) someone will agree to take ownership of Bebe in which case my sister will send them $$ for food, or (2) my sister will eventually capture Bebe and take him home to FL with her. Thanks again to everyone for helping to find and look after Bebe.
Dr. Jack at Church Hill Animal Hospital will possibly loan you a trap, if Bebe is not trap-savvy (which he may be, judging by the ear-tip)… I have rarely seen the cat who can resist a spoonful of greasy Jack Mackerel…
I mentioned before (#12) that a black cat was under our car one night and this morning as I turned the car on I heard this loud thump and a black cat jumped out from under the car (must have been in the undercarriage?). It definitely had a clipped left ear. Ran away so fast I couldn’t see where it went but I hadn’t moved the car an inch so I don’t think it was hurt in the process.
I highly recommend canned fish in a trap if you haven’t tried that already? Good luck!
