The playground at Fairfield Elementary School was burned today at just after 5PM. More on this as it comes in…
The playground at near-by George Mason Elementary School was burned on June 2, 2009. The cost of replacement of the playground was generously picked up by W.E. Singleton.

I’m sure that, since RPS has so much extra money to spend on the lavish new Maymont Pre-K playground, they’ll replace Fairfield’s damaged equipment very quickly.
I saw the black cloud of smoke from Broad Street…it looked much worse than a playground fire. Thankfully the school wasn’t harmed.
The sad part iis that there are probably people in the neighborhood who did this, but will not report it, so their own kids suffer.
Do schools have surveillance cameras? If not, maybe they should. This is awful.
So sad. The NBC article says there were 3 suspicious fires in Churchill that day. Do you know where the other 2 took place?
I wondered about the new Maymont playground, since when my boys and I were there a couple of weeks ago, it definitely wasn’t. Must’ve been speedy construction.
Playground Fire at School Ruled Accidental (wtvr 9/7/10)
On Labor Day the Fire Dept was on their way back to the station when they noticed my trash can on fire. They saw the preps, two boys. Were it not for their prompt action my home would have sustained considerable damage. Only the fence was damaged. I live in the 1300 block of N.23rd St.
