Interested in bocce?
The Friends of Chimborazo Playground are gauging interest in including a bocce court in the plans for the planned renovation of Chimborazo Playground:
If you would actually use the court regularly please respond to this e-mail (jbwhitworth@comcast.net) giving your name and contact details (e-mail or telephone number) along with how often you would play bocce ( weekly, monthly, etc), so we can indicate to Parks and Recreation that there is indeed sufficient support for a bocce court in Church Hill
If the idea progresses the list would also act as a base membership list.
The Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities is about to start renovation work in Chimborazo Playground (29th Street and E. Grace).
There is a short timeframe to ask Parks and Recreation if they would modify their plans and include a double bocce court, but we must be able to prove there is a significant level of local interest in bocce.
If you would actually use the court regularly please respond to this e-mail giving your name and contact details (e-mail or telephone number) along with how often you would play bocce ( weekly, monthly, etc), so we can indicate to Parks and Recreation that there is indeed sufficient support for a bocce court in Church Hill
If the idea progresses the list would also act as a base membership list. The court would be built in conjunction with the new courts that Parks and Recreation is building in the Playground for the French game of petanque (also known as “boules”), to replace the temporary courts used by the Boulefrogs of Church Hill Petanque Club
Like the petanque players, it would be expected that the bocce group would get involved in construction and maintenance of their courts.
So this is the time to come forward – soon it will be too late.
Please call or e-mail me if you have any questions.

Bocce would be really cool and another great use of the park; but where are the players? On the other hand, the park has a goodly number of skate boarders and their equipment. What about a part of the park for them? There is obviously a demonstrated need. If you would like to see how really nice a skate board park can be, go up to Charlottesville and take a look!
My husband and I would LOVE a bocce court…we be there at least once a week to play.
Don’t know what bocce is and don’t care. I hope the “friends” are also considering opinions from folks who don’t want this as well. Who is paying for this? Hopefully, not the city. If you want something to do, drop a couple of bucks. I agree with the Skate park idea, but think we need basketball courts as well, so a compromise or different location is needed.
