Mayor’s Participation and Communication Corps (MPACC) meeting on Wednesday
Mayor Jones is launching the Mayor’s Participation and Communication Corps (MPACC) in the city’s 1st Precinct Wed. Sept.22, at 6:30PM at Woodville Elementary School (2000 North 28th Street):
MPACC will provide a structured mechanism for the proactive, reciprocal exchange of information between residents and city administration. The goal is to provide improved service delivery to residents of the city.
MPACC is organized around the four Richmond Police Department precincts. Additional MPACC launch meetings for the 3rd and 4th precincts are being scheduled for the next two weeks. The public is strongly encouraged to attend a MPACC meeting to learn how they can get involved, voice their concerns and strengthen the relationships between neighborhoods, civic associations, city government, businesses and non-profit organizations.
I think I’ll sit this one out on principle. I’m pretty sure I stay attuned to what’s going on out here and this is the first I’ve heard of the meeting. This is political outreach (although executed poorly) and I recognize I must not be the intended target.
I’d heard that MPACC was coming, but not when/where until very recently. I got it onto the calendar a week or so ago, and got the big press release today.
Houdon #1, well put, I agree with you. Also, it reminds me of the Neighborhood Teams concept which Leonidas Young put together. They were also supposed to facilitate communication with the city etc blah blah blah. Except this one involves the police, too.
Based on the meetings in Second Precinct, the meeting will announce the appointment of MPACC leaders in the community, chosen by the mayor, who will be your link to service delivery, getting past the problems of the 311 call center. What the mayor does not understand is that the problems are not with the call center, they are with the service delivery departments, primarily DPW, but also Finance Department. MPACC will put additional poli8tical operatives on the payroll.
Here we go again – another political gimmick disguised as concern for citizens. If they really want to hear our voice, why don’t the politicians and City staff come to meetings of civic associations and other community groups that occur all over this City? We don’t need anymore meetings or promises – we need action!
#5, I don’t know your neighborhood, so your experience may be valid. I know that in the Fourth District, Mrs. Graziano regularly attends the meetings of the Forest Hill NA, the Westover Hills NA, The Forest Hill Bliley NA,
the Willow Oaks Clevedon Citizens Association, the Southampton Citizens Association, the Oxford Association (when possible), the Traylor Estates CA, and other annual meetings of groups that don’t meet monthly. That’s in addition to her own quarterly meetings.
Proud, what community association meetings do you attend? Ms Newbille has attended several of CHAs meetings and others in the district. MPACC seems like a step in the right direction, lets give it a chance.
