RPS graduates 72% on-time in 2010
The Virginia Department of Education today released on-time graduation numbers for the state, schools systems, and individual schools for the class of 2010. For this class, Richmond Public Schools had an on-time graduation rate of 72% and a cohort graduation rate of 74.6%. The state-wide on-time graduation rate was 85.5%.
From the RPS press release:
Seven city high schools showed gains from last year’s report, including a 13 percent jump at George Wythe which saw its rate increase from 68.67 percent to 81.45 percent. Other Richmond City schools that posted gains include: Open High, 95.83 percent to 100 percent; Franklin Military, 90 percent to 93.75 percent; Thomas Jefferson, 85.78 percent to 88.06 percent; Huguenot, 82.49 percent to 84.59 percent, John Marshall, 74.79 percent to 75.42; and Armstrong, 61.42 percent to 69.29 percent.
While I don’t think anyone would consider a quarter of the students not graduating on time a raging success, these numbers are much better than from a few years ago when it looked like only half of the students were graduating. Part of the gain I think is due to better data/record keeping, part to better work going on at the schools and the rest perhaps to a floundering economy not rife with opportunities outside of school. Keep up the progress RPS.
Please stop the praise for those who do not caring about our kids. You ask the (five letter word) to come in our community knock on some doors and tutor our children so Armsrong would not have a 69% graduation rate. See what type of responses you get. They already think that they are better than the people in this community we pay their salaries they do not put money in our pockets. They take our tax paying dollas and go back to counties were their children receive better education with highly motivated teachers and administrators.

-wait…but that’s 7 letters???
Wait…when Armstrong had a strong graduation rate we did not have workforce Mothers we had parent that make sure their children were in school. The mothers of creighton court would support the band and choir to every competition local and state. Most not all mother would support teachers because they were only a phone call away. Yes…they were on welfare but wasn’t that what welfare about taking care of your family. If you get government support your children should be in school doing their best and you should have time to support your schools.
Opps! Parents. However AHS does not have many two parent homes.
Easy to have a gain in this percentage when you take into account that teachers are pressured by administration to pass students by giving them a “D” when they did not deserve to pass because they didn’t come to class and didn’t do the work.
Wow! hate much do ya..
