Sector 111 report for September
Lieutenant Laino’s Sector 111 report for July (PDF) is available. Sector 111 encompasses Church Hill, Chimborazo, Church Hill North, Fulton, Oakwood, and Union Hill:
During September, the Sector experienced a 29% decrease in Major Crime; there was a 25% decrease in violent crime (12 incidents reported in 2009 compared to 9 in 2010) and a 29% decrease in property crime (51 incidents reported in 2009 compared to 36 in 2010). The 9 violent crimes reported included: 4 Aggravated Assaults, 1 Commercial Robbery and 4 Individual Robberies. Of the 9 violent incidents reported 3 have been cleared by arrest, 1 is a known offender and the remaining 5 incidents are still being investigated by detectives. The current trends in Property Crime are thefts related to motor vehicles and vandalism to vehicles.
I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to think of this question, but why is there not a drug or prostitution section included in this monthly report? Aren’t those becoming the crimes that affect our community more these days than the violent crimes? (The answer is “yes” and I’m grateful to the First Precinct for making it so).
I think the neighborhood is transitioning from a place where violent crimes are the focus to one where attention needs to be turned to eradicating the street corner crime that plagues many parts of Church Hill, Fulton, Union Hill, Fairmount, and elsewhere. Could future reports include statistics by neighborhood on narcotics and prostitution arrests, particularly dealers and johns?
