Police car t-boned on 20th Street
10/17/2010 2:12 AM by John M
Two men fled the scene after running a stop sign and t-boning a police car at 20th and Brauers early this morning. A pair of suspects are in handcuffs on the 1500 block of 23rd Street as RPD continues to investigate the accident.
From the RPD:
A Richmond Police officer is recovering from minor injuries and two men are under arrest today following a two-car accident early this morning.
At 1:17 a.m. a Richmond Police officer driving west on Brauers Lane was struck in the driver’s side door by a 1990 Buick Century traveling north on 20th Street.
The results of the Richmond Police Crash Team investigation indicate the driver of the Buick disregarded a stop sign and hit the police vehicle at the intersection of 20th and Brauers.
The Buick’s driver Devon Markee Byrd, and his passenger Japorium Antonio Straughter, both ran from the scene of the crash. Richmond Police officers found them hiding in a nearby yard.
Byrd, 21, of the 700 block of Stockton Street and Straughter, 18, of the 2100 block of Creighton Road are both charged with felony hit-and-run.
