James L. Louis, 36, of the 1900 block of North 20th Street, was found shot just after 3AM this morning in the 1900 block of Accommodation Street. Louis was taken to VCU Medical Center where he later died.
Anyone with any information about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
Hummm…pretty soon now the projects will clean themselves up if these folks keep killing each other!
A new generation is seeing and living through this madness….What happens to the 5 year-old who has to live in this constant chaos? When will the cycle of violence be broken? Most of the shooters do not live in the communities in which they shoot. A lot of it is retaliation…perhaps even for a retaliation… and the cycle never ends.
Im raising a prayer for the community today!
Regarding post #1: What an ignorant, thinly-veiled racist statement. Feel better about yourself after posting that?
To the person that posted the first comment. I wish you could have been on the phone today as I listened to this young man’s mother wailing in grief over the loss of her son. One day you may be in need of mercy…and I hope that you are extended more mercy than you have shown.
@1 And you have the audacity to chastise me for what I believe? I may speak the truth about ignorance, illegal behavior that harms others or their property, and laziness but I’ve never been so cavalier about people dying.
@ #3 – I can’t help but think that part of the futility around the violence in the East End is fueled by this perception. While #1 may have been seriously callous, it’s not accurate to call the comment racist. The association, itself, links race, rather than a lifestyle, with a certain behavior. This makes it all touchy and hard to talk about. All folks of color are not violent – not by a very, very long shot. Not even close. It’s not a feature of any certain race…
So the implication/association of race with violent behavior is, in itself, racist, actually. If it happens to be the case here that the folks involved were of a certain race, okay. But it is not a cultural trait of any certain people which needs to be protected and navigated lightly. That implication is highly troublesome, actually.
This knee-jerk PC attitude is part of the problem with free discussion around creative solution to the problem of violence in the East End. We need to stop acting like we are stepping on a certain race’s cultural rights to call out the violence and really have a truthful discussion. Because nobody has the cultural right to impose a dangerous lifestyle on the public, no matter what color their skin is. Crime is crime.
This stuff is always so sad. But if there is any us/them, it should be the folks who want peace vs the folks who hurt other people as a way of life. Keep it there, and there is so much more that can be discussed with compassion.
I agree with SEW. It has nothing to do with race. The projects, especially Mosby, have been a violent hotspot for years. The criminals are killing each other off. I just feel sorry for the innocent people that are mixed in over there.
3, 4, and 5: Correct me if I’m wrong here, but I just read again what I wrote and I said nothing about race at all did I? It seems you took what I said as a racist comment. Ya’ll implied the racist statement within the comment. Perhaps James said it a bit more eloquently than I but we basically said the same thing. The people in the projects (the criminals) are killing each other off. Sad, yes but true. I see nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade. It is what it is. I simply made an observation. All this political correctness is BS. Sorry if you feel differently but clearly it’s not acceptable for me to feel differently than you.
Well, I agree for the most part. But who are the people that are committing crimes in the east side? Is it Italians? Irish? Salvadorans? I don’t think so. #1 called it the way it is. How could it be racist when we all know who are committing the crimes such as shootings, breaking into homes, and the list goes on. Who is responsible for this vicious cycle? So if the community is so appalled by these comments, then do something about it. Pointing fingers and calling people racists is not going to help your situation one bit. I too call it the way I see it. And when I see the crime reports of the people that are doing the killing, robbing, etc, my eyes are not deceiving me. I know exactly what race is doing this. Call me what you wish — racist, bigot, but this will not save the next poor kid that gets shot in the projects. So again, do something about it!
the rest of us meanspirited moralising is ultimately the last refuge of the truly helpless. couple this with the inability to feel any kinship to other human beings and you get this circle jerk of selfserving anonymous pollyannas, who seem to take great pleasure in elevating themselves by demeaning others. it might not be racism to paint a whole group of people as fit for self extermination but you little posers sure seem to enjoy it. it might not be racism, but it sure says a lot about you! again your freedom of speech protects your right to speak out against the govt without fear of reprisal.the rest of us can light you up like a christmas tree!its hard to feel neighborlyto a cybername.just sayin
@DW. What do you propose that one might do about it?
There aint no demeaning others here. I don’t need to elevate myself. I know I am better than some thug who shoots or robs others. My mother raised me to know right from wrong. Unfortunately, the gangstas who choose to harm others also tend to congregate in the ghettos. Mosby is a ghetto and that is where the crime happens. There are a few good people left there, but they are at the mercy of the thugs. I don’t care what race the thugs belong to, the world would be a better place without them. Also, Church Hill would likely be a safer place without Mosby.
Projects = Poverty = Crime
There is no way around it.
@12 Not just Mosby, but Whitcomb, Fairfield and creighton. No one should have to live in communities where the THUGS are allowed to take over. Our kids did not ask to grow up in poverty and crime. Someone else made that choice for them. TAKE THEM DOWN !!!!
Nor should our schools be located in the middle of the projects. If we are talking about building new schools, build a new MLK is a safer location.
