Man shot dead at Quik Stop
11/10/2010 8:00 AM by John M
The RTD has details on a shooting last night:
Richmond police today identified the victim of last night’s shooting death outside the Quik Stop Food Mart in the 4000 block of Government Road as Christopher David Lee, 29, of Richmond.
Capt. Paul Kiniry said officers responded to the store at about 7:15 p.m. for a report of a person down and found Lee, who died at the scene.
Too close to home.
Having just moved here, this is incredibly sad.
I was mid-3 mile run finishing the loop at Chimborazo when I heard gunshots, but they seemed to be coming from way down 33rd or 34th. I looked around, saw a person walking their dog, oblivious to the sounds. People were still out and about on their porches. I kept running.
Damn, this is way too close to home. I run by that area a few times a week. It is also very early in the evening. I hope the catch the shooter.
From the RPD:
A shooting in front of a neighborhood convenience store resulted in the death of Richmond man last night.
Around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, Richmond Police were called to the 4000 block of Government Road for a report of a person down. When officers arrived, they found Christopher David Lee, 29, unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Lee, who lived in the 700 block of North 35th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Richmond Police are investigating robbery as a possible motive in this homicide. There is no suspect information available at this time.
Anyone with information in this homicide is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
I remember hearing 3-4 shots being fired near Broad Street, but never heard any sirens.
I was coming home from a Civic Association meeting where we discussed escalating crime in the area. I saw lots of police lights up ahead, but I turned off Government before I got too close. Not good!
Escalating crime?? Reveal your statistics.
Several recent disturbing incidents. This one gets added to the list.
Juliellen, anecdotal evidence aside, how about some real numbers before you propagandize your fears. Crime doesn’t seem to be escalating on Church Hill. Yet.
Bill, my comment was merely to illustrate the seeming irony that at the same time that some of us were having a discussion about crime, this incident happened. I am not propagandizing my fears. In my immediate neighborhood, there have been several incidents that I will not get into here for several reasons: 1) they are under investigation. 2) they are not the topic of this post. 3) they are not in Church Hill. If this doesn’t satisfy you, you are free to contact me. John M. knows how to reach me.
For the 1st Precinct murder wise, it is worse. 3 more homicides compared to same time last year.
however –
Robbery is down (151 compared to 2009’s 174) Burglary down (279 compared to 2009’s 319)
Vehicle theft down (184 compared to 2009’s 219)
Vice is down (581 compared to 2009’s 707)
little change on these fronts –
Sexual assault 30 (same), assault 1224 (+1) and theft 957 (+9)
I would say theft is on the rise, but murder and violence seems to be about the same.
Bill #9, vandalism seems to be up a bit over the last few months, I’m thinking of the bb guns at cars, tire slashings mostly around 26th and Broad a couple of months back, and a car window smashed out last weekend at the Belfry Condo parking lot at 26th Street, plus the theft or attempted theft of recyclable stuff. I don’t really consider that ‘crime is up’ though, more along the lines of mindless vandalism, or in the case of theft of recycling, economic opportunity.
I, too, would like to hear actual numbers and types of crime from Juliellen. I’ve lived up here many years and don’t consider what has happened recently to be a crive wave, in spite of the shooting at the convenience store.
There’s a dead guy lying in a pool of blood at 7:00 pm in a convenience store parking lot on your precious hill, ……and bill says, site numbers before you “propagandize your fears”.
Some of you people are just plain whack.
The dead guy, if he could talk, would say that crime has escalated.
#14 christo, I agree.
#13 crd: Just let me repeat since maybe you didn’t read the response to Bill: In my immediate neighborhood, there have been several incidents that I will not get into here for several reasons: 1) they are under investigation. 2) they are not the topic of this post. 3) they are not in Church Hill. If this doesn’t satisfy you, you are free to contact me. John M. knows how to reach me.
The owners need to clean up the store. Perhaps if it were a little cleaner and better lit, there would be less crime. I noticed they put bulbs in the lights in front of the store yesterday, but too little too late. They also need to make sure they have functioning (and recording) cameras. There are two on the top of the store that caught NOTHING. Now, two violent offenders are wondering around our neighborhood. Now granted, SOMEONE in this hood knows these people or knows something, so they need to step up and speak out. In the meantime, though, please do not support this store until they clean up their act. I live on Glenwood and would rather drive to another gas station than shop there.
christo, put your Man Pants on. 3 more murders (which is roughly the same as last year), 4 categories down, and 3 categories the same. Sorry, you and Juliellen are propagandizing your fears. Church Hill is safer than it was last year.
Are you “whack” that you can’t understand basic reality?
Who do you and Juliellen really fear?
Mars, that lack of camera coverage is inexcusable, especially in that location. For their own safety you’d think the owners would want full coverage. I agree with your call for a boycott.
I think the REAL point to this ongoing discussion should be this: crime fluctuates every year, but the overall TREND for crime in this area seems to be going down. Here’s the catch, though…it needs to KEEP going down. The only way to do that will be to keep looking out for yourself and your neighbors, sharing crime information (e.g. this post and others like it) and continuing to work with (and stay on top of) the police and other public safety folks.
Thank you, that is all. *steps off soap box*
Are the apartment units along Government Road [near that store] government subsidized?
As you all talk about crime and what people should and shouldn’t do remember this. I am friends with his wife and he leaves a wife and 4 beautiful children behind as well as a large and loving host of family and friends.
I am sorry for the loss of this man’s life to his family and to our society. My thoughts and prayers are for them during this time of incredible tragedy and mourning! May the Lord’s compassion strengthen and keep them!!!
wow bill for a big mouth anonymous bullshittin liar who cant find facts or his own cojones you sure sound sure of yourself. you really have the nerve to claim SOMEONE ELSE is making shit up.?i mean arent you the miserable sack of shit who has been ragging the owners of the hill cafe for some made up conspiracy to keep other restaraunts out of the area.? this is what happens when mystery losers are allowed to post. they make shit up. and hey wussboy make sure you gnash your teeth impotently when you see ME in public.i mean after all we all know you are too much of a gutless simp to walk the walk the way you talk the talk. i might be a “moron”but i am not a coward. can you say the same blowtoad?remember you are talking to your neighbors, hardyharhar.
Just found all these comments on my late husband Christopher Lee. Thank you all for the thoughtful words that did leave some. An to the others bottoms Line, crime will never go away as long as the murderers are still loose. Chris Lee’s children still to this day struggle worse than they did when they found out there dad was gone. My children will always suffer because a man decided to become God that night an take Chris’s life. I believe Chris is in Heaven but my children are living in hell everyday. They suffer from severe depression, severe anxiety, severe PTSD an a lot sadness. So really all the murderer really accomplished was ruining 4 children’s live.
