Union Hill Civic Association tonight at Cedar Street
01/19/2011 5:36 PM by John M
The first Union Hill Civic Association meeting of 2011 will be held tonight, January 19th, at Cedar Street Baptist Church starting at 7PM:
We have several guest speakers that include:
* Lt. James Laino will be giving his crime update and fielding questions
* Kendra Feather will be seeking our support for her Special Use Permit at the former Que Pasa
* Hope Cousin will be speaking about the Mayor’s new MPACC initiative
Were the recent parking violations discussed at this meeting?
Chris, yes, I’m afraid I HAD to bring up the “recent parking violations” at the risk of wearing out my welcome at the UHCA mtg (not to mention the nerves of my beloved neighbors.) I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to my fellow meeting attendees for my little rant about the issue.
Lt. Laino seemed to “get it” about our frustration regarding consistent enforcement city-wide and we all agreed that it probably should be resolved on a legislative level (re: call city council).
Laino reiterated that the ordinances are on the books so if someone calls the precinct to complain about a vehicle parked in an unlawful way, or (and this is my comment, here: an officer is havin’ a slow night,) then tickets will get written.
Lt. Laino said he “would speak to the officer” who ticket the Jeff Pk area about the issue. The mayor’s representative piped up and said Councilman Samuels has been getting an earful about similar ticketing in the Fan.
Lt. Laino added that the second wave of parking violations in CH were in fact, “citizen-complaint generated”.
There is no uniform enforcement. I happen to live in the area of a bus stop. There have been times in the past where I have parked in the bus stop because all the other street parking has been taken up by people attending church. I’ve gotten tickets there before but acknowledge that it’s fair since I was at fault. What I find funny (odd, not ha ha) is that when I’ve called the police on folks parked in the bus stop (if I get ticketed there, so should they), sometimes the cars get ticketed and sometimes they do not. Oven odder it seems when white officers show up, tickets are written. When black officers show up, tickets are not written. This is the case probably 95% of the time! By the way, the folks parking in the bus stop are black attending a black church.
