A new look for CHPN and the RVA News Network
03/04/2011 9:08 PM by John M
CHPN and the other sites of the RVA News Network are all sporting a new design.
Each of our sister sites have been updated to a similar, more cohesive, look while still maintaining their individuality.
As with any major changes we expect there to be bugs, issues, and mistakes. So, please bear with us as we get the kinks ironed out. If you’ve got thoughts or questions please let us know.
Some of the familiar site functions, like the calendar and classifieds, have been temporarily disabled but will be worked back into the site over the next few days.

so, where’s the news?
it all broke for a moment, should be ok now?
I’m liking it, John. Good work.
I hope people are patient with it as they get used to it. Change can initially be frustrating as you figure it out, but some people give up too fast and cry out for the old thing.
Hey John – looks nice. Will you have a list of the links to other neighborhood blogs like before?
@Karen – in some fashion, yes. It’ll likely be a week or so before the dust really settles on this.
Do please share your feedback, everyone – myself and the RVA News guys (hi Ross! hi Scott!) would love to hear what you think positive and otherwise.
I think the only thing I’m missing so far is the ability to jump from one thread to another without going to the main page, by clicking on the comments. Oh, and I can’t figure out how to get to the main page without just hitting the ‘back’ button, but I’m feeling slow and not too smart at the moment so I guess I’ll figure that one out soon!
Will there also eventually be a preview pane? Or is that gone? Just wondering, not sure how much I miss that feature.
@crd – I’ve added recent comments and recent posts to the bottom of the individual pages. Clicking on the name/logo at the top should take you back to the home page.
The live preview might come back. I like it, but it makes things slow on cell phones.
I also miss the links to other community blogs – hope that feature can return – thanks for all the good work
Thank you John M, now I don’t feel quite so challenged about navigating!
This will take a little getting used to but overall I like the new look. Thanks for all you do John!
Like it, but wish there were more news i.e. you could scroll a ways before you had to go to page 2. Before it seemed like you could do that.
An issue of mine as well… Check it again, I’ve stretched it out a little.
nice!
@john_m New design is nice. And it’s cool having consistency across all of the sites in the RVA news network.
One comment on the font selection – viewing in IE looks crisp. But not so in Firefox and Chrome. In those two, fonts appear light and blurred.
Hey John,
Do you still have your “services” and classified section? Thanks!
