Open Source debuts today on WRIR
I’m Will Snyder, a Church Hill resident and Wall Street Journal writer. I’m hosting a new public radio show called “Open Source.” It’s a one-hour call-in show where we’ll have the Richmond region’s top newsmakers and analysts in the studio every Friday. I picked the name “Open Source” because I want your input, too, via calls, emails and Twitter.
Open Source will be on the air every Friday from 10-11am on 97.3 FM and streaming online at wrir.org. We’ll have podcasts of each week’s show available in the early afternoon.
The first 30 minutes this week are dedicated to dissecting the latest Census data, especially the income divide and rising poverty. Urban Studies guru, Dr. John Moeser, will be my first guest.
The second half hour will be a look at the region’s sudden increase in the homeless population over the winter. Karen Stanley from The Healing Place and Kelly King Horne from Homeward will be in the studio to discuss.
We can take your questions in three ways:
1. On Twitter by sending them to @rvaopensource
2. Via email at rvaopensource@gmail.com
3. Or by calling 649-9737
Good stuff, I’ll be tuning in next week as well.
Will,
Really enjoyed the show this morning. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to catch the second half hour. Will you be posting podcasts of previously aired shows?
Thanks to you and WRIR for launching a news department. Great to have an independent source out there on the beat.

Oh, this is fantastic! It’s really exciting to be getting more local news/information programming on the airwaves. Way to go, WRIR!
So sorry I missed your first program with Professor Moeser. A hybrid scholar of Sociology and Urban Studies, he was one of my most favorite instructors at VCU. I’ll check out last week’s podcast and hope Professor Moeser will be a return guest!
EXcellent show!
Glad to hear about the iTunes podcast subscription. I’ve been proposing the idea of a “WRIR channel”on iTunes for a few years now. Perhaps you will be the catalyst??
Wonderful contribution to WRIR and Richmond, Will. Thanks! When do you plan to discuss the growing aging population in Richmond along the lines of the Age Wave? Would you like recommendations of experts on that topic?
