Rumors of a bakery and coffee shop
04/09/2011 7:36 PM by John M
I keep hearing rumors of folks being interested in opening a bakery/coffee shop in the former salon space on 25th Street. Anybody know anything about this?
I’ve heard those rumors!
Haven’t heard it, but sure hope it’s true!
Meeeee too! That would be so nice for the neighborhood.
IT ABOUT TIME
OMG…I hope it comes true. I would love to be able to walk to a coffee shop for breakfast and cross the street for lunch.
I’ve heard the same rumors. Maybe we’re all talking to each other?
More specifically, the rumor I heard was wood burning oven baked bread and tall bike coffee! But I think its still speculation right now.
Please please please please please!!!
Spreading that rumour is just plain mean. 😉
That would be wonderful! I would love if they sold cake by the slice.
Wow, what a welcome addition this would be to the Jefferson Avenue/25th Street corridor.
I’ve heard talk about a bakery, but not about the “/coffee shop” part. I say bring it on: having the Roosevelt and a bakery so close to home would be fantastic.
Bring it on:)
I want starbucks.
Alec, I sure hope you’re joking about Starbucks. If not, you may end up being roasted along with a batch of DEEliscious local java. I’m only half joking here…please don’t use the “S” word again, or your sense of community and good taste WILL be called into question.
Pssst…by the way…this place really IS going to be great.
@Thornley, do you know something more?
Queen of Church Hill, I don’t know if the bakery will have cake by the slice, I am thinking they’re doing more of a bread thing? But you’ll be well taken care of on the cake front when the Roosevelt opens, I am sure of that.
Please explain … what is the Roosevelt?
The Roosevelt

To “Queen of Church Hill”; they sell cake by the slice at It Must Be Heaven at E Broad near 25th.
If this is true, I would be stoked! I live two blocks away!
I’m totally not joking about Starbucks.
Alec,
There’s a Starbucks down the block in The Market. We DON’T need another one on the hill!
Alec, are you also hoping that the bakery will be a Panera? 😛
Have you ever tried the Starbucks in “The Market”? It’s pitiful. They are always out of basic supplies like cups, straws, napkins, etc. It’s a dreadful experience to say the least.
I hate Panera. Give me a good Polish bakery. And lets gets this neighborhood gentrified!
C’mon pastry shop with cannolis.
No, I’ve never tried the Starbucks at The Market. I would prefer to keep the money I spend in the area (Buzzys, Globehopper, etc) instead of larger chains. Most of what The market does is dreadful anyway. Rotten produce, rude service (although that has improved some), and poor selection of products.
My Kingdom For A Polish Bakery on 25th Street.
I look forward to the Roosevelt and the bakery. Also, I don’t think I can afford the cake at “It Must be Heaven” (though, I wish I could afford to support them). I took my daughter there one evening for ice cream and for one scoop of ice cream, the cost was $5.83. I remember exactly because I only had a $5 bill on me and had to walk home to get the .83 cents that I owed…
I know it’s fashionable to slag the big chains but It takes a real man (much like myself) to buck that trend and stand up for a consistently good drink that costs $5 instead of settling for cold dirt coffee just because it was brewed “on the Hill”.
Alright… Less foolish bickering and more facts, please. We just want to know what’s happening with this location.
Hi, I am doing a profile piece on the Storefront for Community Design. I was told that the person interested in opening said bakery consulted with the Storefront. I am interested in a quote from anyone who has used the Storefront–as to their service experience.
Has anyone heard anything new about the bakery? In the process of signing a lease to open a place in the early fall and was going to have baked goods but don’t want to step on any toes!
