Dana Craig on Buffington’s
05/19/2011 7:01 AM by John M
Dana Craig weighs in on Buffington & Wine’s Pies, Fries and Franks:
A recent newcomer to the contentious local pizza scene is Buffington & Wine’s Pies, Fries and Franks. Located in the heart of Church Hill, it serves — you guessed it — pizza, french fries and hot dogs. […] If you don’t mind casual, do-it-yourself service, a go-with-the-flow attitude and simple, greasy fare, Pie, Fries and Franks is right up your alley. I can see it being popular with neighbors once the place fleshes out its personality.
I like their Paul Bunyon pizza.
Dana obviously hasn’t read the community’s reaction. She’s welcome to voice her views but the neighborhood that would potentially support this venue is no longer interested without some major updates.
What a generous review! Now tell us what you REALLY think Dana.
Just shut this place down. Bob and Victor misrepresent their product and don’t give a sh*t about their potential consumers. If Bob’s wife is having health issues then let him take care of her. Don’t use a sh*tty pizza shop to milk money out of the neighborhood. Take care of your personal issues on your own time….not mine. I have been to ‘Buffington and Wines Pies, Fries and Franks’ and been told that this is a ‘soft’ opening. If you don’t have a seat to sit on and an ABC license in effect then don’t open your establishment. I like nothing more than to wonder what to expect when I decide to spend my hard earned money on a local establishment. Giving up $20-$30 of my money wondering if I’ll get a beer or a good pizza or a deep fried hot dog is so much fun…..just like the lottery. Kick these bastards out of the neighborhood and let someone that gives a sh*t take their place. In previous posts I’ve mentioned that they don’t have Kalamata olives, as advertised. They don’t have canadian bacon, as advertised. They don’t have italian sausage, as advertised. Let these bastards and Captain Buzzy’s suck in their own greed and find out what it means to be hated by their community.
Apparently they don’t know sh*t about pizza. I hear that the crust is contracted out through a local bakery but I sat and watched while the Sam’s Club ingredients started pouring in. One of the advantages of using local vendors, if you choose, is the advent of better quality food. Even the mainstream vendors supply better quality items than the general public can get. I go to restaurants because I don’t feel like cooking and they can usually do a better job than I can at home. I even cook my own steaks due to the overpriced market in fine restaurants around here. Does anyone on this post provide the quality of aged beef that Buckhead’s supplies?
It pretty much comes down to the fact that Bob and Mary Ann do not care what you, the community, thinks. The prices at Buzzy’s just went up this past week. Did the quality of the product change? NO. It never will. They fired the baker, not that they deserved her talent anyways. They need to treat their employees and customers better, most of us who work there are getting pretty ticked off with every sleazy, cheap thing that happens. Church Hill deserves better.
I drove by the other day and there was a large sign that read “Buffington’s On the Corner” – anyone know if the name change signifies a change in menu items?
Nothing yet. There has been a sign on the window that a new menu is coming soon but it’s been there so long it has started to fade in the sun.
I thought the sign said “Buff’s.” Did I misread it, or did I see a different one than Amy N-B saw? The one I saw, yesterday (Monday) was facing Broad Street. Just curious. Appraently no menu change yet, although I no longer know anyone who will set foot in the place.
I live pretty much across the street from it, it’s called Buff’s on the Corner. One of my neighbors said that they’re offering thin crust pizza now and it was a hell of a lot better than what they had. I’ll take his word for it.
so nobody has anything to say about a piece of crap who derides another persons illness? wow.you guys are just a total loss. i wrote a comment that was wasnt printed (it was a little over the top but i wrote it to see how many of you would miss the point and jump up and down.) it really does look as if you sad little trolls really have lost any and all sense of values. good luck.and when you get sick or have problems in your life remember the empathy or even regard you couldnt spare a real person……because you were too busy hiding behind your insecurities. church hill denizen….karma is gonna take a huge dump on your punkass head. now wax wroth oh impotent keyboard hack.to all of you guys who use this paper as a place to share the news ,my comments are not directed towards you……but the little souled crybabies who use this venue as hiding place to ambush real people who arent washouts like you….please catch something bad.oh and kiss my irish ass.
Ummmm…it’s not a “paper”.
Buddy, I don’t derive pleasure in other people’s misfortune. I was merely commenting on those who think that because of Bob’s wife’s illness that we need to cut them a break. Maybe if your wife is sick then it’s not the best time to open up a new establishment? If my comments upset you then I apologize. If you want to put together a fundraiser to help with her bills then please do so and I will support it. I don’t wish ill-will on anyone but I also don’t like to be lied to about a product that I’m paying good money for. I’ve watched the Sam’s Club ingredients walk in the door. Karma’s biting them in the a**, not me.
As for the anonymity, it’s your decision to place your name on this public blog. Any moron can look up public records and find out exactly where you live. I don’t care to have anyone that I don’t know have access to my personal information. This blog allows for anonymity so call me a coward if you want but I’m not opening myself up to potential harm for your sake. Your ‘transparency’ is really an invite for any idiot that doesn’t like your post to potentially show up on your front door. You may welcome this but I certainly do not.
The entire argument about anonymous posts is absolutely inane. Just because someone uses a screen name does not make his or her argument any more or any less accurate. For Buddy, its just an opening of ad hominem attacks. I would never post my real name and I have very good reasons for that that.
Posting anonymously online does not prevent someone from finding out who you are and where you live. It’s harder to find out, but it can be done, and it is done. So if you don’t want someone to know who you are, you shouldn’t post at all.
I post my real name because it is a choice that I have the freedom to make. The 1st Amendment protects my right to post my name without a midnight death squad militia hauling me and my family away never to be hear from again. Before everyone starts to laugh and think I’m a fool, think about it. The internet is Global, but I live in a country that allows me the freedom to choose how I comment and I am grateful for that.
If I had the paranoia and fear that some of you have around being “found out” I don’t think I could get up in the morning. But, I do respect your right to post anonymously. Just remember, anything you put online is not really anonymous. Stalkers? People showing up at your front door? No offense, but I don’t think any of us and what we say are really that important. Besides, most people wouldn’t have the guts to confront you in person.
Buddy’s got nothing to lose if someone takes his identity and I’m guessing his employer could give a rat’s ass what he says online. Those of us with bank accounts and reputable jobs have to adhere to different standards. I’ll leave it at that.
I think having a discussion about anonymity v real name comments is very interesting and important.
Ad hominem attacks? You’re anonymous! Even if technically the attack is a fallacious argument, there is no “person” being attacked. Isn’t that the way anonymity pros want it? I would argue that anonymity allows the individual the ease of posting really mean comments along with gossip and news/pseudo news without fear of retribution.
I think that the 1st Amendment is there to protect the rights of people who are willing to own their opinions with their real names without fear of retribution. Internet anonymity is used as a perversion of 1st Amendment rights.
THERE IS NO FREEDOM IN ANONYMITY!
Alex:
Every time you use you bank account and go to your reputable job, and live your life, you are in danger of someone stealing your identity, however important (as you seem to think you are) or unimportant (as you think about the rest of us) a person happens to be.
Laura,
My post was a response to post 13 explaining that he’s wasting his breath trying to convince Buddy that anonymous is the way to go. When I posted, yours was awaiting moderation I guess. Sorry if it came across as a slight against you and any other sane real name posters because of the juxtaposition. I disagree with your position but you at least can articulate your arguments so I’ll respect that.
In my case, it’s not an identity theft concern though I can see that others might have that worry and I get that. I have my reasons but agree with your point that anonymity should not be an excuse for immaturity. I try not to say anything on here I wouldn’t say in person to my neighbors or to the subject’s face.
However occasionally an isolated post could be taken out of context (witness my earlier post) and I do not want to have it pop up during an employment web search. I also may take positions from time to time that are acceptable in a community setting but may be ones I would not advertise in a professional setting. Again, to avoid having my personal views brought into a professional context, I want to remain anonymous.
“THERE IS NO FREEDOM IN ANONYMITY!”
You kidding? It’s a public forum, not a town hall meeting. I swear, I think some of you just discovered the internet last year. As for Buddy, well, he’s not even worth your time. Same attacks, same arguments, same buddy. The funniest thing is to read his post attacking people for attacking a business owner.
Pot…kettle…black.
We popped by yesterday and were told that a new menu is coming with sandwiches and salads. Here’s hoping it works. I just hope there are enough folks that will give them a second or third chance if they get it right.
