Come out for the Union Hill Flower Bulb Planting this evening
06/13/2011 6:58 AM by John M
Meet at corner of O Street and North 20th Street tonight at 5PM to take part in the Union Hill Flower Bulb Planting:
Join us and the local residents and kids in planting flower bulbs in Union Hill. Bring study shoes, gloves, a small shovel (trowel) & a large shovel or hoe if you have them. We will have a limited number of extra garden tools to share.
Free snacks & water provided. If you have any extra plants you aren’t using that are drought tolerant & low maintenance, feel free to bring them to plant. This is a family friendly event – feel free to bring your kids to help beautify RVA!
Tricycle Gardens has donated 350 tomato and pepper plants, and we will be planting these in Mosby Court and the surrounding neighborhood. Lowes is donating some good soil mix so we can help improve the soil for planting. I talked to some of the kids and they’re really excited to plant tonight – I hope to see many of my neighbors there 🙂
Thanks to everyone who came out to help plant on Monday, the event was a huge success! In fact, we are going to have regular planting events in the area, because we were so positively received and the neighborhood kids loved it – the next two events are Monday June 20th & 27th, 5-7pm.

rachel thanks to you and rob for having such good hearts…..and the moxie to match them!
Will try to make the 27th planting – do you need us to bring anything?
@Buddy – thx again for helping us pick up the soil that Lowes donated last week – it’s great neighbors like you that make this possible 🙂
@chpnfan – awesome, glad you can make it out! Bring your gloves & tools if you have some, otherwise we have some we can lend you. If you have some healthy snacks to bring to share, it’s definitely much appreciated!
Big thanks also to Home Depot & Tricycle Gardens for their wonderful donations and for lending us tools! If you know of anyone who might be willing to make a donation, let me know. We’ve a list of needed supplies at MCV-greenunity.blogspot.com. We’re running this summer-long project completely on donations and whatever we can fundraise through our rain barrels, t-shirt & water bottle sales (also on our website). Any help of supplies, funds, or time are greatly appreciated!
