An experiment with comments
We’re experimenting with an upgrade to how the comments work on some of the community blogs.
The newness adds the ability to pull in tweets and Facebook comments that relate to the post. In recent years, the discussion around blog posts has moved out off of the page, and we’d like to be able pull the conversation together better.
I also like the idea that you have the choice to more concretely identify yourself. While I highly respect everyone’s privacy, I do believe there is value in having a conversation with people that I can put a face to. This is your choice.
You have the option of commenting as previously by entering your name, email, and comment. You can also choose to sign in using your Twitter or Facebook account. If you have a gravatar set up for your email, this will display beside your name.
I would appreciate any feedback that you might have.
This is an example of a new comment with a gravatar.
Here is a comment that I am posting, having signed in from the CHPN twitter account.
So, if we just post as normal, does it post our gmail avatar? how do you opt to post without the avatar?
question answered. so, then, the question remains, how do you post WITH your avatar if you so choose?
I don’t know how to get this to pull from Google. If you set up an avatar at Gravatar http://en.gravatar.com/ it’ll be grabbed from there.
It’s all keyed off of your email address. To post without an avatar, use an email without anything hooked up to it I guess.
OK – I’ve set up a gravatar. Does that mean it will show up without doing anything else?
Apparently Houdon. Your picture doesn’t look exactly like the last time I saw you. Maybe it’s been too long.
I’m in!
