Shooting on 23rd Street
12/11/2011 12:50 PM by John M
A man was shot at about 9:30PM last night in the 1800 block of North 23rd Street:
The victim, who was not identified, was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he was being treated for injuries police said were not life-threatening.
@brittanyHEIT if you were planning to move to this part of 23rd, you probably can expect this kind of crap on a semi-regular basis. Hopefully you are moving to a nicer part. It really varies a lot depending on what part of 23rd you are moving to.
It’s less ominous if you’re on 23rd closer to Broad Street. There’s just Patrick Henry’s Pub and a stop sign that drivers like to ignore…
Yeah, anywhere in the letter streets pretty much means you have a great chance of getting shot.
My wife and I are thinking of buying near 37th and M, by the military academy. Seems like a quiet, tucked away part of Church Hill. Does the letter street rule apply to that neighborhood as well?
@5 – depends on how comfortable you are with being near craziness. 37th is a lot quieter street because it’s tucked away a bit but 35th in that same area gets a little wild. The house I think you are looking at is a pretty good deal though if it’s the one I’m thinking of. We looked at it for my sister and while it needs some work, the price is nice.
Don’t let comments on this blog lead you to believe CH is a dangerous place. Violent crime is not widespread and is generally confined to certain areas of the neighborhood.
35 is a good block
“Yeah, anywhere in the letter streets pretty much means you have a great chance of getting shot”
Nice generalization. I live off of Q and previously lived on P and haven’t felt unsafe in either house.
I purchased a house on north 26th and it is one of the safest areas in Church Hill. When I first moved to Richmond from California, all I heard were horror stories about the area. I’ve been here almost 4 years and it is nothing compared to other areas I have been in such as Oakland or LA. I feel safe here. I guess a lot of people who move here tend to come from suburbia or have never been exposed to urban living that when issues arise, they deem it as unsafe. I say stay in your gated communities and carefree worlds where life is not reality. As much as you try to escape the real world, shit happens all over the place, even in the places that are deemed “safe.”
Which block of N 26 are you located? I agree – I’ve lived in Oakland and the SF Tenderloin and RVA feels much safer than those places! Having said that, I wouldn’t want to buy near a drug dealing spot. I guess people need to be smart no matter where they live, really.
26th and M.
@4 u dont kno what you are talking about its sound stupid so let it go. @11 you are so right its not about where you live cuz you have to be careful and safe no matter what part of Church Hill you lie in. Sad people arer just DUMB
Gunshots just fired near 29th and Leigh. I love living here!
Oh, by the way, welcome to the neighborhood, Brittany! Grendelspyce-stay away, stay far, far away!
