Proper Pie seeking Church Hill location

SEED-grant winner Proper Pie is profiled on RVANews today:
As to their brick and mortar location, Smith envisions an “old-fashioned pie shop” serving a range of eight-to-ten seasonally-appropriate meat, vegetarian, and even vegan pies. Sitting at a counter, patrons will also be able to drink milkshakes and homemade sodas.
A long-term goal is for Proper Pie Co. to distribute their pies across the country, “We want to compete nationwide.” Smith’s ambition doesn’t stop there. “Ultimately, I would love to own my own restaurant.” The more pressing goal, however, is to find a space in Church Hill.

I agree with JD……the old It Must Be Heaven location would be perfect….
The little triangle joint across from Sunny Mart would be cool, too. There is also a place with a hod vent at like 28th and Nine Mile.

I agree about 2500 E. Broad too. It’s already all set-up for it.

The problem with the IMBH location is that it isn’t really set up for baking. She had a microwave, hot plate, crock pot type of set up but I don’t think she had a full oven. I don’t know what it would take to make it a full-fledged bakery. That said, it IS for rent, and it’s highly visible. #6 Brad, it’s in the middle of the 2500 block of East Broad.
Eric #8 isn’t that for sale?
What is going on here lately. All of the various shops coming along are serving “new age” health foods that are completely foreign to a 50+ person. Whatever happened to good old fashioned Southern comfort foods? W need one of those in the area!
I think I confused Brad (@6) by typing TMBH instead of IMBH. Sorry.
Eric (@10), I hardly think meat pies qualify as “new age health food,” the Roosevelt does “new” Southern which is delicious, but also not health food. I haven’t been myself but it certainly seems like OMG qualifies as “good old fashioned Southern comfort food.”
I’m really excited to have so many new places in the neighborhood and hope they can all survive. I love that we will soon have two very different coffee shops (if sub rosa ever opens), two very different sandwich places (str8 outta philly and house of homemade), and two very different takes on Southern cuisine (OMG and The Roosevelt, plus OMG’s spin offs), not to mention Alamo, The Hill, Patrick Henry, and Buffington’s. Of all these delectable choices, the only one that qualifies as “health food” is HOH.
Eric just likes to be the curmudgeon. These aren’t pies filled with mung beans or alfalfa sprouts. Proper Pies are delicious, I have eaten them myself. Think an individual-sized savory pie that can be eaten out of hand. Imagine homemade puff pastry, wrapped around a chicken and sweet potato filling. Go to their facebook page for photos, and pray that their shop opens soon.
