Woman shot on 25th Street (UPDATED)
12/22/2011 10:50 AM by John M
She was found in a car parked on N. 25th Street. She was taken to VCU Medical Center with what are being described as life-threatening injuries.
Police have blocked off 25th street between R Street and Venable Street as part of the investigation.
what’s that two blocks from the police station? Merry Christmas!!
The Richmond Police Department is investigating the death of a woman who was shot earlier this morning in the city’s East End.
Around 7:20 a.m. a Richmond Police officer was flagged down by a passer-by who noticed a woman unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the 1100 block of North 25th Street. The woman had a gunshot wound.
She immediately was taken to VCU Medical Center, where she later died.
The homicide victim has been identified as Bonnie C. Marrow, 56, of the 8200 block of Cookes Farm Court in Henrico County.
The initial investigation indicates Marrow may have been struck by a bullet inside her car as she traveled in the vicinity of the Nine Mile Road corridor or the Mechanicsville Turnpike corridor. She would occasionally visit the gravesite of a loved one at Oakwood Cemetery and then travel toward 25th Street.
This morning, it appears Marrow was shot somewhere near Nine Mile or Mechanicsville Turnpike but managed to drive to North 25th Street before losing consciousness. She was driving a late-model four-door, black Acura. A photo of the car accompanies this advisory.
Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood and asking if anyone saw anything between 7:15 and 7:20 a.m. or heard gunshots in the area of Nine Mile Road, Mechanicsville Turnpike or North 25th Street at that time that they please call the Richmond Police Tips Line at 514-TIPS (8477).
Persons with information also may call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both methods are anonymous.
This the same corridore that the Mayor and lots of suits/skirts attended a ‘feel-good’ event at the Robinson Theater 18 months ago? Seems like all that talk didn’t stop the bullet that killed this lady. How about that 25th St. Corridor program and oh by the way, Where’s the Beef?
So incredibly sad. My heart goes out to her family.
@8 – So would you rather have this area continue to be ignored by the City and suits/skirts of Richmond? I think we can all agree that there are definitely some problems (especially safety) in the area, but without the planning behind some of these “feel-good” events there wouldn’t be a concrete plan of action to bring jobs and community development to this particular area of the City. Obviously the place isn’t going to change overnight, but at least something has started and gotten the conversation going about how to address these issues that I’m sure have been plaguing that corridor for decades.
We know not what tomorrow brings. My heart, prayers and thoughts go out to the family.
@ #10
The Mayor is very good at conversation. That’s probably what he will be remembered for.
Am I reading this right that police believe this to be a stray bullet?
This is so sad. A stray bullet – at 7:30 in the morning? I hope some one comes forward.
Almost a year later, still nothing?
