Help out at the NRC for MLK Day of Service
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?” said Martin Luther King, Jr. Richmonders will have the opportunity to respond to Dr. King’s call of service during the weekend of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, January 14-16, 2012 by engaging in HandsOn Greater Richmond’s programming. The weekend’s events include ten service projects that will take place in our parks and nonprofits and a free film screening at the Byrd Theater.
Each year, the Corporation for National and Community Service honors Dr. King’s legacy by asking Americans to make Martin Luther King, Jr. Day a national day of service. HandsOn Greater Richmond’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day projects are made possible with the support of Target, Inc. HandsOn Greater Richmond has organized a comprehensive program for the week including ten projects and a free film screening, with a concentration of projects on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 16th .
HandsOn Greater Richmond, in partnership with ConnectRichmond and Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, will host a free film screening of The Great Debaters at the Byrd Theater on Monday, January 16th at 6:30pm.
One of the volunteer opportunities is the NRC Center Makeover at the Neighborhood Resource Center in Fulton. Volunteers will sort books and toys, organize art supplies and assist NRC with additional tasks to support programs. Volunteers may assist with outdoor projects in the community garden, weather permitting
