Anybody missing a Boston Terrier?
01/18/2012 8:02 PM by John M
boston terrier found walking around government rd in east end. very sweet temperament. please reply to this add with a picture or description, i cant keep the dog for long, and will have to surrender it to the SPCA shortly.
Have you found the owners? I would be willing to foster rather than send the pup to the SPCA! I already have a Boston that could keep him company.
I don’t think taking the dog to the SPCA will help you because by law, they will require you to take the dog to Richmond Animal Care and Control. They have to hold the dog for 10 days to allow the owner to claim it. Also, fostering the dog is like theft, so that is also not a good idea. It really should be taken to Richmond Animal Care and Control.
@4 (Carolyn)-agreed. The SPCA will not take strays animals and only take owner turn ins by appointment only (& only after a thorough telephone screening). If you can not hold a stray while searching for it’s rightful owner, Richmond Animal Care and Control on Chamberlayne Ave. is the place to take the animal. In the meantime, a few suggestions: 1. Place a “found” pet report with Richmond Animal Care & Control. 2. Visit local veterinarian offices to place a “found” report and check their “lost” reports (C.H. Animal Hospital,Cary St. Vet, Fan Vet, others in E. End) 3.Post a found report on Craig’s List and on http://www.petfinders.org. Check same for “lost” reports.
You can also have the dog scanned for a microchip. Any DVM office would be able to do that for you.
Check with Church Hill Animal Hospital if you haven’t already. They treat a lot of pets in this area, and may be able to ID the dog, or at least scan it for a microchip. And be careful surrendering it to Animal Care and Control: they DO euthanize. You might also try contacting the Neighborhood Resource Center and the Fulton civic association to see if anyone has put up flyers about a missing dog.
If you absolutely can’t keep the dog any longer, contact Richmond Animal League at (804) 379-0046 or http://www.ral.org, FURS at (804) 364-1944 or http://www.fursdogs.com, or AARF at (804) 254-0800 or http://www.aarf.org. They’re all great organizations dedicated to finding foster and permanent homes for dogs and cats in the Richmond area.
