Chimbo Supermarket seeking ABC off license
01/21/2012 11:00 AM by John M
According to the ABC License Application Review issued on January 19 (PDF), the Chimbo Supermarket at 515 Chimborazo Blvd applied for a Wine & Beer Off Premises ABC license on December 8.
Good for them. Maybe the lines at Blue Wheeler won’t be so long now. I sure have been thinking lately that we need more stores that have a good selection of cheap wines and fortified malt beverages. Hopefully this works out.
Given the success that most of the other markets that sell in the area have had at keeping disruption to their surrounding areas to a minimum, I see no reason we should oppose this. Plus Chimbo Mini Market has already shown their ability to police their parking lot to date. It’s safe now and will only get safer once they bring in some alcohol to calm folks’ nerves down. The neighbors should be thrilled.
Unfortunately, it looks like it is too late to do anything about it or complain to ABC if I’m reading it right?
I never go in there, but I always assumed that they already sold beer and wine. Guess I learned something today.
I shopped there on the reg 2 years ago and bought beer all the time. They had a butcher, few decent vegetables on hand and all the household crap. This place served me well while I lived over there. Most of the time there was a security dude who didn
‘t play.
@Mars-That’s my reading too. Darn it. The *last* thing that part of the neighborhood needs is this. Nothing good can come of this.
they definitely sell beer, wine, and malt liquor already. would they need to reapply for some reason?
You’re right they definately already sell alcohol.
ive lived next to them for over 2yrs and theve always had beer and malt..and ive never had a problem with them…i even sometimes cash my check there and never had a problem as well…and they are slowly upgrading the place..i love this place so back off yuppies!
I had a real estate client who lived right behind the Chimbo Mart, on Clay, and he told me he really appreciated being able to walk out of his back door and have a halal butcher right there. He couldn’t understand why buyers kept mentioning the market as a detractor. It’s definitely come a heck of a long way since I lived on Chimbo in ’92…..
