There are many farmer’s markets in the city and the surrounding areas. What if this market became the international farmer’s market. Have you ever watched a cooking show and the chef wanted you to use a certain ingredient found in Asian supermarkets or a Hispanic market? What if we offered international food and entertainment at our Farmer’s Market? People could try different cuisine, the music would amazing and it would provide a festive and different atmosphere. Chef’s could be inspired to add these ingredients to their menus. Sounds good to me.
Urban – I like your idea, I’m just not sure if the city has enough international citizens for such a market, unless it was really small, in which case it would probably be better to just have a booth at an existing market. The local chef’s, foodies and people who like those ingredients might be enough to make it viable. I would love to see someone try it and maybe I am wrong and it would be a huge success.
I really like this idea. Farm Fresh is just awful for anything remotely exotic. Driving out to Tan-A and Tokyo Market kind of sucks…and I don’t even know where to look for Indian and middle-eastern ingredients.
The whole idea for a Farmers Market is to buy local produce. If someone wanted to offer international fare they can pay for a booth. But there are plenty of specialty markets and most grocery stores also offer the same ingredents.
I just ran across the various angles of this proposal (on the Shockoe site) which I must say I like a lot. Reflects the original design and like the courtyard with statues too.
I know this will probably get buried but can someone tell me what happened that this project never happened? It would have been a nice building and space, instead of yet another flat piece of nothingness that is going there now.

I knew this was going to fall like a rock and these answers to older posts are not picked up on the digest versions with recent ones. And so, once below 8 recent comments, they are lost. That said, I am still curious about this project and what happened?
