Sketch of suspect in January shooting
Richmond Police detectives are releasing the attached suspect sketch of a man who shot a United States Marine during a robbery in Church Hill last month.
Detectives are hoping that someone recognizes this person and calls police.
At approximately 8 p.m. on Jan. 27, the 25-year-old Marine was walking with his girlfriend in the 600 block of North 33rd Street when they were approached by an unknown male who displayed a gun and demanded money. After the victims complied, the male shot the victim and ran away.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’10” with a skinny build and young, possibly in his late 20s. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hoodie with a white and black or red bandana covering the lower portion of his face. The bandana possibly had a Houndstooth print design, like the one in the attached sketch.
The victim suffered life-threatening injuries, and is currently in rehabilitation. He is a reserve sergeant and was previously stationed out of Cherry Point Air Force Base and served tours of duty in Okinawa, Japan, and Iraq.
Anyone who recognizes this sketch or has information about this crime is asked to call Detective Amira Sleem at (804) 646-3871 or the Department’s Tipsline at 514-TIPS (8477). Citizens can also call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
Glad to hear the victim is recovering and he gets back to normal.
The sketch is so useless it would’ve comical if this weren’t such a serious case. Not a reflection on the artist but there’s not enough to go on in this case to even bother drawing a sketch. The verbal description gives more detail.
The suspect could be anybody…
I think he is hiding in Tora Borah, in the mountains of Afghanistan.
I think their best bet would be to provide an actual photograph of a “houndstooth” bandana logo since I assume many people (myself included) did not know what that looked like. That logo sounds pretty specific and the person that did this was probably wearing it before they committed the crime, hell they are probably still wearing it.
Unrelated to this incident, but anyone know what the dirt bag white male being arrested in front of Ocean Grocery yesterday around 6:00 PM was all about? There were lots of officers on the scene and a pretty big crowd had gathered watching him being loaded into the paddy wagon. For a block that sees lots of police action, everyone looked unusually interested.
