I appreciate the message, particularly that it is so positive. Rare to see it. However, what is “Black” RVA? Never heard of this and certainly not happy to see that. What a divisive message that name gives! Is there a “White” RVA or a “Yellow” RVA? Think about the terms we use. You call it ethnic pride, but it smacks to me of division. Isn’t that what we’re fighting to overcome?
I have to agree. Great to see the positive message, but why continue to draw a line in the sand? “White RVA” would be cause for torch & pitchforks. Very narrow-minded if you ask me.
As soon as white people are discriminated against in a way that puts the whole community at a risk the way many African-Americans in Richmond are, I’m sure White RVA would be a welcome group. I’m white by the way.
Its a very nice video with a very nice message. Its not racist, or any other negative connotation . It’s artistic freedom, expression, about peace. Why don’t you undercover racist on this blog get a grip and stop stressing over nothing. These people are attempting to achieve success through exposure. Unbelievable!!!
Why is it that when something is labeled Black it is divisive? So is the Irish festival divisive too? What about the Indian festival? Italian? French film? Let’s get rid of it all because it is not all inclusive.
The message is a very positive: telling Richmond to wake up, stop the gunfire, stop the racism, stop the drugs.
If you go and listen to the song they copied by Teddy Pendergrass “Wakeup everybody” The main lyrics are: “The world won’t get no better, If we just let it be The world won’t get no better We gotta change it, yeah, just you and me”
I have never head of them & what they are trying to achieve is to spread the word to make Richmond a better place.

That’s from the Black RVA website. Awesome video. Beautiful tribute to the city and very positive and hopeful. Nothing divisive about it.
Beautifully expresses soulful and sincere concern for RVA without blaming any one particular demographic, political party, or professional group. Artful, tasteful, and really inspiring. Captures a lot of what richmond is about.
How about preaching more about “personal responsibility”?

What a great collaborative effort. And the filmmaker is only 18 years old!
There should be a verse about Rat Love!
