The East Richmond Road Convenience Center (AKA The Dump) will not open until noon today. In the morning hours, power will be off while Dominion Virginia Power performs maintenance in the area.
last time I went there, they were no longer accepting trash. Anyone know if this has changed?
I sent an email to the city over the weekend to find out more, all I got was confirmation that this is true and due to “storm damage”.
so what exactly does a dump do that does not take trash?
I believe all they’re taking now is yard waste.
I was told at the gate by an employee some months ago that damage from the earthquake caused that section of the place to be closed. I asked Councilperson Newbille at her last local meeting when the damage would be repaired. She did not know. Someone will probably have to take the issue to council.
The dump has a cement retaining wall that fell over. It’s basically where you would pull your car up to and throw your trash over and into the dumpster. The facility on the south side(N. Hopkins Rd) has been extremely busy on the weekends.
They still take yard trash and give out as much free mulch as you can shovel yourself. I was there this past Saturday doing just that.
Being in the middle of a house renovation having that dump close by was great. It was only a matter of time before an earthquake or stiff breeze blew that wall over…in fact they were lucky no one was seriously injured. Heard the same stories as everyone else, emailed councilwoman Newbille, and am certain the next time it’s open I’ll be in a flying car. Is there something else we can do?
anyone else see a pattern in poor planning and execution by the city? Seriously. How long would this take to rebuild. And then the giant hole in the road being discussed elsewhere. The public works depts of our city need new management from top to bottom
went to this dump on Saturday to dispose of used motor oil, but they don’t do it at that location anymore… the southside dump on Hopkins doesn’t accept used oil anymore either… anyone know where I can dispose of used motor oil in the city?
…#10. Take the oil to city hall. Someone down there should be able to use it.
@#10 advaced auto takes used motor oil for free. just bring your container and they’ll direct you to the big tank where you pour it into.
