The circus that is Sunday brunch at Millie’s

There are certain experiences that are so quintessentially Richmond that it’s hard to call yourself a true Richmonder without trying at least once. A spring stroll at Maymont, a Saturday feature at the Byrd Theatre, a festival on Brown’s Island. In the Richmond dining world, the equivalent of this “must-do” event is brunch at Millie’s.

Love Millies brunch when it’s not the nicest of days. Same food but less wait. It used to be so much better before everybody and their sister decided to crowd in there on Saturdays.
Like many of Richmond’s must-dos, it can be a miserable experience.
Can’t believe it took me until this year to finally go to Millie’s brunch. I agree going on a colder or possibly rainy morning is the best way to avoid either getting there an hour early or waiting an hour after they open.
“Nobody eats there anymore; it’s too crowded.” – Yogi Berra
Poe’s has a brunch that is just as good for $5 less and no wait. But I guess folks like to go to the place that makes them look like they know what’s cool.
A brunch at Millie’s is what sold my husband on moving to Church Hill, no lie.
2 eggs.1/2 potatoe 1/2redpepper 1 clove of garlic.s&p. Maybe some herbs..Olive oil. And coffee
Broken down to a serving about 2 bucks at the grocery.
At millies….. A long line . And a check for 20.
And a whole bunch of shortpump on the side.
A landmark for sure. That I can’t afford.
