The best donuts in Virginia?
05/03/2012 12:28 PM by John M
Virginia Living says that Williamsburg Road’s Country Style Donuts might be the best in the state:
So it has come to this. With National Doughnut Day (June 1) nearly upon us, we at Virginia Living feel it is extremely important to set the record straight. Where are the best doughnuts to be found in Virginia, and what makes them so good? Aside from the mass-producing doughnut monsters, Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme, which have locations around the state, there are a variety of increasingly popular artisan doughnut shops in Virginia, including:
Carpe Donut (Charlottesville)
Country Style Doughnuts (Richmond)
Mama’s Donut Bites (Vienna)
Spudnut Shop (Charlottesville)
Westhampton Pastry Shop (Richmond)
TAGGED: Country Style Doughnuts
I would have to agree- good to see them get the recognition. This makes me crave an Old Fashioned.
Are you kidding?! Best in the WORLD!
If there is better, I’d love to try them. I worked in the grocery business at the wholesale level and must have gotten samples of 50 or more brands of donuts over the years. None was even in the same league as Country Style’s.
Besides the mythical Krispy Kreme “HOT NOW” glazed donuts (straight off the belt), my vote has to be for Country Style everyday of the week!
Krispy Kreme’s are too scrawny for my tastes, even on the rare occasions when you can find one made within the past week. Overrated at best…
Country Style is awesome, but those Mennonites at the South of the James Market make some incredible donuts too.
Spudnut, hands down. Country style is bet in Richmond, but not that great. Spudnut has been a standard of comparison for 20 years for me
Yep… simply the best, better than all the rest
gdawg – I’d agree, the Mennonites’ donuts are amazing. Love Country Style too. Could VA be the donut capital of the world?? Can’t imagine anybody having that many good chain and local donut offerings.
Bret, VA’s pretty high on the list but Pennsylvania is probably a bit higher overall. They even have a donut holiday there (Fastnacht Day) and the Amish can make some mean baked goods.
