A walk around the neighborhood

Danielle at Lath and Plastered has a nice write-up of last week’s Quoit Club walking tour of Church Hill:
Last Thursday I attended my first Quoit Club meet up- a walking tour of Church Hill! The Quoit Club is an organization that promotes preserving Richmond’s heritage by hosting history and architecture related social events. As if this doesn’t stimulate me enough, they also offer hors d’ouerves and cocktails (a good way to convince my non-preservation friends to come along too). Church Hill is personally one of my favorite neighborhoods in Richmond.
Many years ago I had a friend very much involved in the restoration of Church Hill. In the late ’70s, hoping to move to Richmond, I looked over a three story row house overlooking Chmbarozo Park, still in the beginnings of its restoration phase. Things worked out differently for me, but I still regret that that project never took place.
We were glad to host Quoit Club and appreciate the fact that Curch Hill was selected for the tour. Showing our neighborhood with its rich history and quiet charm is always a pleasure. Thus the preservation of CH, its homes and vistas, are all part of a total value to Richmond and Virginia, which sometimes gets minimized – by those with ‘other’ or competing agends.
