This little duplex at 1237 North 27th Street always catches my eye. I keep expecting the house to look better or worse, but it just sits there on the corner, sporting that goofy gang graffiti.
Today I followed up a little… The city lists Anthony Lyons of Clayton, North Carolina, as the owner of the property since 2006. This is Mr.Lyons’ only property in Richmond. Google turns up that he owns Lyons Home Improvement, LLC in Clayton.
In a conversation with Mr.Lyons on the telephone, he says that while he intends to fix up the part of the left (with the graffiti) to be able to rent it out, he has been stalled by city paper work and the economy. He currently has a tenant in the 2-bedroom unit on the right.
I asked why the graffiti has been allowed to linger, he blamed the economy and asked if I would buy him some paint.
What color paint you going to get for him?
He gave me express permission to paint it white. I’m thinking about it.
I have some extra white paint and some brushes- let’s tool around CH this week and see the sights.

Do it John!
If you report the graffiti through the “Citizen Request System” it will be removed fast. I have reported vandalism before and the city moved quick to address it. The “boy with doves” that use to be on M and 30th street is a good example.
