07/26/2012 5:43 PM by John M
A quick spin through Richmond Magazine’s Best & Worst 2012 finds a number of local winners:
- Libby Hill wins for “Best Scenic View in RVA”,
- The CHA’s Holiday House Tour grabs 2nd in “Best Neighborhood House Tour”,
- Proper Pie takes 2nd for “Best Pies”,
- The Roosevelt wins for “Best Virginia Wine Selection” and “Best New Restaurant in the Region”, and takes 2nd for “Best Cocktail You Can’t Make at Home”
- Church Hill gets a 3rd for “Neighborhood With the Widest Variety of Architectural Styles”, and
- CHPN wins for “Best Neighborhood Blog”.
Anybody else seen a copy yet? Are there any local kudos that I missed?
So a place that hasn’t opened yet is the second best pie in Richmond? Not sure if that’s a sign that the pies are just that good that people can taste them already or that we have a weak pie market in Richmond…
@ Alex…A cold drink is awaiting you at Hill Cafe. Touchee’
@Alex – I thought the same thing! Are they in existence somewhere that we don’t know about?
Doesn’t Proper Pie sell at the William Byrd community garden market already? I’m pretty sure they sell somewhere at a farmers market, just not sure where, so I think they are already in existence. They just haven’t opened their store up here yet.
aahh – good to know! I see a trip to that market in my future to try them out!
Has anyone actually purchased a Proper Pie from a farmer’s market? If so, which one? They aren’t listed as a vendor at either the Byrd House Market or at the South of the James Market (Forest Hill).
I believe they were selling for a while before acquiring an actual space.
A quick look a their FB pages shows the sell around town at various events and locations

I love that Roosevelt is once again recognized, because let’s face it, they are awesome and one of the best, if not the best thing the neighborhood offers, but isn’t it kind of sad they are pretty much the only contender. That’s the real problem. There just aren’t enough Va wines represented in this town. Look how far Va beer has come in just the last year, meanwhile, the selection of Va wine, at both restaurants and stores, is abysmal, even amongst local wine shops.
Julep’s has an amazingly deep Virginia wine list, though they do not price as aggressively as the Roosevelt.
@8 – I am not finding any references to places they sold on the Facebook page. Can you tell me which markets they go to since you were able to find this? Most of what I see on there is just random updates about the coming soon storefront.
