Picture this: a man running down the street carrying a TV
07/31/2012 8:02 AM by John M
First Precinct Officer John Esposito was on patrol recently when he spotted a man running with a TV on North 32nd Street and went to investigate. After the man ducked into a nearby house, Officer Esposito called for backup. With the assistance of K-9 Officer Sammy Hernandez, K-9 Niko and First Precinct Det. David Cuffley, Sgts. Dana Brereton, Chris Wyatt and Ethan Rhodenizer as well as Officers Mary Gary, Jerry Baskette, Brenda Graham and Tim Arthur, they surrounded the building, searched the area and safely made an arrest. They also recovered the stolen property. Good work all!
I live on n 32nd and just inventoried my tvs – all are accounted for. I would have loved to have seen this! One more idiot off the street.
Wow, they rolled all units for this one.
I do have a HUGE old console TV I was going to give to good will, but will gladly donate to anyone individual who can lift it and run down the street with it.
Funny stuff. Also funny how many officers it took to arrest a man with a stolen TV. Maybe next time the local drug dealer on N32nd by the Wheeler is dealing I should call it in as a stolen TV?
All hands on deck! This must have been a sight to see. Any idea what block of N 32nd this occurred on?
It seems most people here are making fun of the cops. If it was your house being burglarized, and your TV stolen, you would be glad the cops did their job. The perp. could easily have left the TV where he hid, and took off, if the cops didn’t stay with this guy. This was a burglary, and the perp. needs to be taken off the streets and or stopped. Good Job RPD
Steven. It’s crazy how so many people probably know the exact person that you are talking about who stands next to the Blue wheeler and constantly sells drugs to all who are around. It’s crazy to me that he hasn’t been arrested yet.
Chanti- Correct. Therefore, most won’t also understand the sarcasm(although there is a lot of truth behind it too) behind the comment. BTW, he has pretty much gotten run off of the corner there due to various citizen’s constant calls to police and working with the Wheeler to get folks from not loitering in that area. I would say the majority of the time he is now sitting or pacing back and forth on the corner of N. 32nd and Clay. There is a vacant house there on the corner and he makes himself at home on their steps or just stands in the middle of the road. I’ve witnessed a lot, call the cops with nothing. Same old shit. He’s also on his pnone most of the time directing traffic, drugs that is and then he eventually gets picked up in a car. It’s a total joke. He knows people are watching but he also knows the police are not on to him.
If the Blue Wheeler got cleaned up, It would make it a better area for everyone. I used to live right across the street from there and its amazing how many horrible things are allowed to happen. I agree that its a total joke. Hopefully it will get fixed soon. All in good time, I suppose.
Today’s prop bet: which happens first?
A.) the city decides on a ballpark location
B.) 21st street reopens
C.) the cops manage to arrest the known drug dealer working the Blue Wheeler corner
I was going to put a hell freezes over option but that would be too easy. I’m going with B and expecting to see my money sometime late next year.
We (in the Chimbo area) are working with the owners of the Blue Wheeler to get it cleaned up. Stayed tuned and cross your fingers.
Sorry but how hard can it be to catch a guy running down the street with a tv. Everything about the scenario says WRONG. It’s just slightly less obvious than Newt standing out in front of the Blue Wheeler all day and all night making drug deals for years on end. RPD says they are going to make changes but they never do. It’s the same old thing with these pushers, drunks, loiterers and no goods. Newt will continue to peddle his drugs 1 block from an elementary school, in a neighborhood that has at least 15 children under the age of 10 in the first 3 blocks of N 32nd Street, and the RPD won’t/can’t/are not able to do anything about it. IMO.
Steven, Lucky Canine et al; I was in the Wheeler the other night and spoke with the young guy at the register. Apparently Sam sold his share of the business ownership to the guy who owns Clay St Market. Supposedly they are on track to reopen the window out front and clean up the entry point. Per Alex above, I won’t hold my breath until I turn blue, but here’s hoping.
Tagging on to the drugs issue…. There is a new Lt. For sector 111. I contacted him and he seems very promising. He is interested in meeting with folks to hear concerns. He is aware of the issues and drug dealer as he was a sergeant here years ago. I would encourage you to reach out to him via email to start. He gave me his cell number and said to call anytime. He’s on vacation as of today but has his cell number on his out of office.
Thanks, HCB. That would explain why Lt. Greene no longer returns my calls or answers my emails. We will reach out to the new Lt. and see if we can catch up with him when he returrns from his vacation.
