A recent post on 2120 East Broad mentioned that the building once had a second story. The photo above (larger), a look west on Broad from the south-east corner of 22nd and Broad Streets, shows to the a glimpse of that building.

Wow – great picture! One of the few “before and afters” where the modern day shot actually looks a bit better! FYI, there’s also a great picture of the old Bellevue School in the first Church Hill book published by HRF; the building actually was three stories tall and had a 5-story tower.
Thanks for this! It looks like the Bellevue School has a lot more than just a second floor in the top pic.
Does anyone have a photo of the block between 24th and 25th on E. Broad where the small park is now across from St. John’s Church – prior to the buildings being torn down there?
This photo [http://www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_virginia/3595197339/sizes/o/] was tagged as the north-east corner of Broad and 25th, making the building at the very right of the photo the Church Hill Bank. Across the street are the buildings that are now gone.
Good picture. Too bad it doesn’t show the Broad Street side storefronts. I am interested in the tall one with the older front. I also seem to recall there was a gas station on that block at one point in the 1930s? Could be wrong. This picture is at least 1959, the newest car in the photo.
