The Church Hill Reunion is back! After a year off, the annual gathering of the old school has been scheduled for Saturday, September 8 at George Mason Playground-Ethel Bailey Furman Field.

Uh-oh, this is behind my house! Time to get crazy!
What is the purpose of this, exactly? Are these folks that used to live up here and come back to hang out?
Like #1, I live right at the edge of the school/park and in the past, it’s just been a bunch of loud, inconsiderate folks that congregate, play REALLY loud music, and litter.
I agree with Observer. There is a perinnial problem with this event in that the participants litter and carry on in the side streets well after the event is over. I’d be nice if the participants were a little more considerate and caring of the surrounding neighborhood.
@2 and @3. I agree. It would be nice if the participants were a little more considerate and caring of the surrounding neighborhood, congregate outside, play really loud music, and stop littering, BUT, the same goes for restaurants and corner stores that most people push into someone else’s backyard. So maybe we shouldn’t be so selective in what and/or who we criticize just because we like or don’t like someone.
Sunny: As much time and effort I put into keeping the block I live on clean, I’m sure you could see why it would irk me to see people litter and not pick up after themselves. I personally never said I didn’t like “someone”, I just don’t care for some of the negative effects of the event that impact me and my neighbors. I’m all for people having a good time, I would just like to see people respect the neighborhood and the residents who call the area around the park home. It’s as simple as that.
If this is the Ryan I think it is…he is absolutely correct. He goes above and beyond to not only maintain his beautiful home and yard but also the entire block. From trash pick up to cleaning the sidewalks, Ryan is an asset to the neighborhood…we should be so lucky to have a few more. Have some respect people…keep your trash at your own home and don’t ruin it for those who make a difference. If bad behavior continues, we can sure make it tough for that reunion to continue. Listen up people…we’re not going to play games with you.
I understand what you are saying, I appreciate that you keep up with your block. I actually feel much like you, and it irks me to see people litter and not pick up after themselves. My only point is- if someone makes a minor complaint against the St.Patrick’s festival, they get verbally attacked on this blog; If anyone makes a complaint about a restaurant or a corner market, they get verbally attacked,… The answer is “It’s a City, move to the suburbs!. Or it’s only once a year for the festivals. or….
There doesn’t seem to be any consideration for the immediate neighbors that are affected by these happenings, or a way to try and work with them so that everyone is happy. Just one example; negative comments were made to the person on 27th Street because he made comments about parking, even though it would impact him the most, being a daily event.
I don’t know anything about the “church-hill reunion”, and am also for people having a good time, and I would also like to see people respect the neighborhood and the residents, AND each other. So again, I agree with you.
Not to mention that a few years ago there was a fight, and rumors of firearms. Two children ran over to our house and we took them in to protect them.
Admit it! Too many black people that you don’t know. “Some of my best friends are black” You immediately think trouble. They don’t allow this sort of thing on the west end. Move to Short Pump, or be considerate of the people who have held this reunion for MANY years. Just because you are here and as usual bitching when things don’t suit you in the URBAN enviroment YOU decided to move into.
” If bad behavior continues, we can sure make it tough for that reunion to continue.”
Sounds like something Ms. Hilly Holbrook would say…
I am absolutely appalled by the conditions the festival left our neighborhood.
There is trash all over the park, debris on the sidewalks, dumped food and grease on the sidewalks and litter just piled up everywhere.
What isn’t in sight is a single trash can. Not a one. This is incredibly poor planning.
Who is responsible for this event?
