Once, JUST ONCE, can we have someone who juggles/is a clown/does bike or skateboard tricks/has whatever entertaining talent who does NOT tie it into Christianity/Bible teaching of any sort? Do you see Muslim jugglers teaching Koran lessons as they toss chainsaws? Jewish skateboarders comparing a 720 jump to Moses parting the Red Sea? If you have to do tricks to get people interested in your religion, maybe you should rethink your religion or how you get it across.
@2- why don’t you take up juggling then. It’s his show, he can do whatever he wants with it. Why are you so bothered by someone expressing his religion? We do live in a free country. If Christianity bothers you so much, stay home or find something else to do. Plenty of folks appreciate the message and find it a fun way for their kids to learn it.
The problem is not Jesse or his rightful and righteous mission. The problem is people like Trish interfering with personal rights. Take a hike…
Trish,
Besides your post being disrespectful of others right to enjoy their religion, it’s also incorrect…

Lots of other religions use fun to help illustrate their points. The stick-up-the-ass atheist crowd is the only religion I know of that takes itself too seriously to bring entertainment into their life. (note, that’s not all atheists, just those of you who are too high strung that you see anything Christians do as a full fledged assault on you)
@Trish-
I totally agree! What do these hooligans think this hill is all about? It’s almost like they think Christians are welcomed by most people in the neighborhood! Next thing you know, people will start contructing all sorts of large buildings up here on the hill, and dedicating them to Christ! Wait a sec…
Maybe people who are offended by large groups of happy Christians should live in neighborhoods that don’t have the word “church” in the name.
I agree. Having a religious tie-in (or environmental, as he says he sometimes does) sounds pretty innocuous. It sounds like he is there to perform and to help others. He caters his message to the needs of the group. When he came to the Bill Robinson theater and performed for free for a horde of screaming babies, I didn’t hear a peep about religion. It’s not as if he’s cramming it down their throats. He is a gentle human and a father and I think an apology might be in order.
Anyone reading this, please raise your hand if you’ve never heard of Christianity.
Anyone reading this, please raise your hand if you know anyone who advertises themselves as a Muslim/Buddhist/Hindu/Pastafarian/religion of your choice mainstream entertainer of any sort. (I know that back in the day there were Jewish entertainers who advertised as such, but preaching about how awesome Yahweh is was not involved, it was more like “we’re gonna be speaking Hebrew/Yiddish here, be warned.”
It could have just been mentioned that this guy does shows for hospitals and needy kids. But no, it was SPECIFICALLY mentioned that he uses his shows to preach his Christianity. If I may use one of my favorite Bible quotes here, Matthew 6:5:
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.”
Or in more modern parlance, they love to juggle/play sports/sing crap rock music/do magic tricks, etc.
Shorter Trish = I hate Christians and wish they’d stop doing fun things.
BTW #8 completely takes that verse out of context. The point of the verse is not to use your religion as a way to elevate yourself. I don’t think that’s the case here. Jesse and most other Christian entertainers whose hearts are in the right place are using their performance to elevate God.
Trish’s interpretation of the verse would imply that Christians should only conduct worship in dark backrooms. While that may be what she wants, it’s not how the verse is generally interpreted.
It always amuses me how the modern progressive is all for tolerance for everyone but Christians but wants to completely crush any signs of Christianity. It sure would be nice if one day we could move to a world where everyone was able to express their rights as long as they don’t infringe on others.
