Sector 111 report for September
Lt.Minton’s Sector 111 September report (PDF) is now available. Sector 111 encompasses Church Hill, Chimborazo, Church Hill North, Fulton, Oakwood, and Union Hill.
The report includes statistical comparisons of violent and property crime for August 2011 and August 2012, and year-to-date comparisons for 2011 and 2012, as well as a narrative take recent events:
We had a great August in Sector 111. Violent Crime was down by 56% as compared to the same time last year and Property Crime showed a reduction of 11%. The majority of the violent crime that occurred was cleared by arrest or warrants have been obtained for the perpetrators of these crimes. As well, 50% of the Burglaries have been cleared by arrest.
Sector 111 is still experiencing an increase in Thefts of Mopeds and we have seen an increase in Motor Vehicle Thefts. One of the trends that has been occurring is cars being sto- len and taken to the scrap yard for $250.00. If you see a tow truck in your neighborhood towing vehicles and there does not seem to be a valid reason for the tow, please give us a call at 646-5100 so we can come check it out. As far as the scooters/mopeds are concerned if they are visible from the street then they are being targeted. It doesn’t matter if they are locked or chained up.
On a positive note, we had some great arrests this month due to some alert neighbors and great information from the community. We were able to arrest Tajean Wilson for breaking into 7 cars in the Church Hill area because of a call from a concerned citizen. Mr. Wilson was charged with 12 different offenses related to breaking into the 7 vehicles. Another alert neighbor actually took a picture of a juvenile breaking into a house in sector 111. That picture led to his arrest and we were able to charge him with 3 burglaries in the area.
My favorite example of the community working hand in hand with the Police Department comes with the arrest of Mustapha Shabazz. Mr. Shabazz was wanted for Forcible Sodomy for an incident that occurred in Fulton. We reached out to the community and the community did not let us down. We were able to get Mr. Shabazz off the street within 24hrs of the incident. In addition, Mr. Shabazz was charged with a Burglary that occurred in the area due to evidence recovered. Lets keep up the good work together!
Good report!
