Man shot to death in Fulton
09/14/2012 6:45 AM by John M
Police spokesman Gene Lepley said an officer was flagged down shortly after 3 a.m. and directed to an area in the 5300 block of Newton Road, a short distance from the Henrico County line. The officer found a car in a wooded area just off the road, and there was a man in the car who apparently had been shot to death, Lepley said.
This is the East End’s 4th homicide this year, and the 26th for Richmond. This is the 1st killing in the greater Fulton area since 2010.
The Richmond Police Department has identified the man shot to death early this morning as Gregory R. Carter, 37, of the 200 block of North Fourth Street.
Carter’s body was found in his vehicle in the 5300 block of Newton Road by a Richmond Police officer shortly after 3 a.m. The officer, while on routine patrol, had been flagged down by a citizen who alerted the officer to the shooting shortly after it occurred.
Although it is still early in the investigation, detectives are working on a theory that Carter was shot to death by one of two men he met earlier in the evening in downtown Richmond. The men have been described as black males, in their thirties, one taller than the other, both with beards. They were seen with Carter, also a black male, earlier that night.

Second Arrest Made in September Homicide
Richmond Police detectives arrested a second man today in connection with a September homicide.
Bryant C. Jones, 32, of the 170 block of Carlisle Street, was charged with murder and use of a firearm in connection with the shooting death of Gregory R. Carter, 37, of the 200 block of North Fourth Street.
Carter was found shot to death in his vehicle in the 5300 block of Newton Road on Sept.14.
In October, detectives arrested Jason A. Goodson, 32, of Chesterfield and charged him with conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the murder.
Major Crimes Detective James Baynes was able to link Jones to the crime after Jones was involved in an unrelated incident in Chesterfield County that furthered the homicide investigation.
