Church Hill Chillers ghost tour

Union Hill Garden Project

Help low income families plant their own vegetable and flower gardens to provide nutritious low-cost food and to beautify the neighborhood. Learn basic gardening skills and meet members of the community! This fall we are planting fruit trees and bushes for a “community orchard”, landscaping blighted properties, and planting vegetable gardens for individual families. Please bring $5 if you want to share pizza for lunch.

We will host our August potluck picnic, at 6:30 pm Tuesday, August 21, in Reed Square on 26th Street between east Franklin and east Grace streets. CHA will provide water, beer and wine. Again, this picnic is potluck. If your last name begins with A-G please contribute an eentrée. Last names beginning with H-N a side dish is appreciated, O-R a great green salad; and those with last names S-Z can bring desert! Regular meeting are every 3rd Tues.

Happy Camper Fest

Happy Camper Fest 2012 will take place at the Turning Basin in historic Shockoe Bottom on Saturday October 20 from 12-6. Featuring phenomenal local musicians, awesome artists, creative crafters, food wizards, a canal run and a dog trick and costume contest, this amazing festival for all ages is free, though donations are happily accepted to benefit the Richmond SPCA and Communities in Schools of Richmond. Not only does Happy Camper Fest benefit two great local charities, it also encourages healthy activities through the Canal Walk and Run and showcases many great local artisans, musicians, food vendors and other businesses growing and thriving in RVA. Rocketts Landing Run to the River

Join us Saturday October 20th, 2012 at 9:30am for a truly challenging 10k! You will tackle 3 hills, conquer 2 stair sets, run over cobble stones, dash through historic neighborhoods, and race along the banks of the James River in this awesome Urban X-Country race.

Or, if that sounds too intense, you can bring your family on the 5k walk through the scenic East End. After the race, celebrate at the finish line party in your American-made race shirt. You will enjoy the best race food you’ve ever had and a live band and prizes.
