Council approves Riverfront Plan
11/27/2012 8:11 AM by John M
City Council unanimously approved the Riverfront Plan AND the Redskins Deal last night:
First up was Ordinance 2012-202. A number of folks, including Leighton Powell of Scenic Virginia, Amy Swartz from the Historic Richmond Foundation, and Adrienne Kotula with the James River Association all spoke in favor of the plan; there was no opposition. Given the lead-up, this was ultimately anticlimactic.

Slightly off subject but very important for east end residents to know about the robberies at GRTC bus stops in our neighborhood -keep an eye out! I came across this article in the RTD when I opened the online paper to read about last night’s Council meeting: http://www.timesdispatch.com/news/another-robbery-at-east-end-bus-stop-th-such-crime/article_6bdff71e-3882-11e2-8942-0019bb30f31a.html
Thanks to all the Church Hillians who worked so long and tirelessly to get this plan passed. It’s a monumental achievement and will benefit generations to come. Let’s all enjoy our beautiful Rivar!
Can someone explain to me in a few sentences or less what we just bought here? I hadn’t bothered reading all the way through the 200 page presentation because I figured that in Richmond nothing ever gets approved. Now I’m curious what impacts this vote will have. Does the plan give the authority to start all this development or is it just a vote to say sure that looks cool?
