Man shot dead on Newbourne Street

CBS 6 confirms a shooting has left a man dead at 29th and Newbourne Streets, a couple of blocks away from Creighton Court and in between Fairfield and Nine Mile Roads.
This is the 9th killing in the East End in 2012, and the 42nd in the city this year. The 9 homicides (down from 13 in 2011) match the count from 2009, the lowest since at least 1998 and more likely since at least the early 1960s. Four of the 9 killings in the East End this year came in a 2-week span in September.
The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of last night’s fatal shooting as Michael Excell Alexander, 28, of the 300 block of Calhoun Street.
Alexander was found lying on the ground yesterday evening at the corner of 29th and Newbourne Streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Richmond Ambulance Authority paramedics.
The medical examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Two black males dressed in black clothing were seen in the area about the time of the shooting.
CBS 6 doesnt realize that 29th and Newbourne is not a couple blocks from Creighton Court it is Creighton Court. All the buildings on the East side of N. 29th Street at Newbourne are part of Creighton Court. Not that it really matters…….

Cordie, Newbourne Street has 2 parts. The majority of it is in Fairfield Court but it then picks back up for a few blocks and runs right into Creighton Court at N. 29th. Thats the part shown in Johns map.
