Lt.Minton’s Sector 111 January report (PDF) is now available. Sector 111 encompasses Church Hill, Chimborazo, Church Hill North, Fulton, Oakwood, and Union Hill.

The report includes statistical comparisons of violent and property crime for November 2011/2012, and year-to-date comparisons for 2011/2012, as well as a narrative take recent events:

First off, let me thank you all for a great year in sector 111. The reductions would not
have been possible without the support from the community. Sector 111 ended the year with a 13% reduction in violent crime. Even with the uptick of robberies near the end of the year, we had 11 less robberies than last year. We also experienced a 75% reduction of rapes in the sector compared to last year. The only violent crime category that had an increase was do-mestic related aggravated assaults. Myself and Sgt. Tish Edmonds are going to work on addressing this issue. Sgt. Edmonds was a Domestic Violence detective before coming to sector 111 as a patrol sergeant and continues to work with the community to reduce domestic violence and educate the public concerning this crime.

Property Crimes were reduced by 1% compared to last year. We had 5 less than last years total. The really good news is that Burglaries were down from 111 to 78 which is a 33% reduction. The areas we saw increases were shoplifting, theft of motor vehicle parts/accessories, and vehicle thefts. The sector as a whole celebrated a 3% reduction in overall crime. This is the second highest crime reduction amongst the 12 sectors in the city. Our sector also had the 2nd to lowest number of overall crimes city wide!

Taking a look at violent crime for the month of December, we had a 38% reduction with the notable categories being homicides and robberies. Last December there were 3 homicides in the sector and there were none this time period. Robberies were also down 43% compared to last December. Property crime in December was down 29%. Burglaries and theft from vehi- cles were down significantly. I am looking forward to continuing these trends in 2013.

It wouldn’t be a newsletter if I didn’t tell you about some good things that happened last month. We received a call from some concerned citizens about two juveniles stealing bikes on E. Broad St recently. Myself and other officers responded within minutes and were able to find and arrest the 2 juveniles who had stolen the bicycles. As you know, stolen
bicycles have been a issue in the sector. It is alway good to make some ground combating this crime. One of the suspects was only 12 years old…This would not have occurred without the watchful eyes of
3 citizens.

Sector 111 officers also responded to a Burglary in progress in Union Hill and were able to nab 2 adults and recover the stolen items. In addition, officers arrested a juvenile for a robbery that occurred in Church Hill North.
